Capacitors & Dielectrics Notes

1. Capacitors are devices that store electrical energy. Capacitance is the ratio of the charge stored to the potential difference through which the charge is stored. 2. The capacitance of a conductor is affected by its size, the nature of the medium between its plates, and neighboring conductors. 3. When two charged capacitors with different potentials are connected, the charges redistribute and a common potential is attained. Energy is lost in the form of heat during this process.
