1. Warm-up
Suggested: Simon says or mime the activities (Hobbies flashcards from Family and Friends 3)
2. Lesson 1: a. Speaking
Speaking Lead in:
+ Phonics - Have ss work in teams (team boys/girls)
- Write the following verbs on the board (read, watch, visit, play). Point to the verbs in
turn and elicit nouns to make phrases. Each team would take turn to name a phrase
with a verb and get points.
- Say I'm going to read a book this weekend. Ask ss What are you going to do?
- Ss with correct answer will ask another student What are you going to do?
Presentation:
- Hold up the flashcard about hobbies to revise the words
- Have ss look at the word box and the pictures and names the activities
- Point to the boy's thought bubble in the picture on the left. Ask ss What is he going to
do this weekend?
Practice
- Ss take turns to ask and answer the questions
- Writing practice:
+ Focus on the prompt and elicit a complete sentence. Explain that ss have to write
sentences about what they are going to do at the weekend.
+ Ss complete the exercise and teacher asks them to read out their sentences.
- Further speaking activities:
+ Ask ss to list out three activities they are going to do this weekend.
+ Ask all ss to stand up, go around the class and ask at least two friends about the
things they are going to do this weekend.
+ Asks ss to report what they have found out about their friends (Ex: Helen is going
to…. Lily is going to….)

b. Phonics
Lead-in
- Write the letters mp, nt, ld, lt, nd on the board.
- Have ss work in teams and list out as many words with these ending sounds as
possible.
Presentation
- Underline the letters mp, nt, ld, lt, nd
- Model the sound for ss to listen and repeat
Practice
- Ask ss to look at the pictures and the groups of letters i the word pool
- Point to the pictures and explain that the missing sounds are the letter groups in the
word box
- Model an example for ss, have ss complete the exercise and check their answer
- Have ss go back to the list from the brainstorming part and practice with all the ư
3. Lesson 2: a. Speaking
Speaking - Lead-in:
+ Grammar Draw a clock on the board and ask ss what it is and what they use it for
+ Phonics - Presentation
+ Draw the hour and minute hand, showing four o’clock and ask ss what time it is/what the
time is
+ Draw several clocks showing different times on the board
+ Point to ss in turn and go around the class, encouraging them to point to a clock and say to
their friend What's the time? It's....
- Practice
+ Ask ss to look at the clock.
+ Play the recording for ss to listen and point to the phrases around the clock as they hear
them
+ Play the second part of the recording for ss to repeat
+ Play the recording all the way through again for ss to listen, point, and then repeat the times
in chorus
+ Ask two ss to read the speech bubbles for the class
+ Ss work in pairs, take turn to ask and answer questions baout the time using the pictures
+ Further activity: Have ss practice telling the time with

- Invite three students to come to the board and ask ss Who is taller? Who is tallest?

- Revise grammatical points:

- Read the text in the box with the class.
