I. OBJECTIVES
1. Identify the different types of cohesive devices;
2. Discuss the importance of cohesive devices; and
3. Use cohesive devices in constructing sentences and paragraphs.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Cohesive Device – To Signal Similarity and Difference
References: DepEd TV
Skills to be developed: Creativity, critical thinking, analyzing, organization, collaboration
Materials: Laptop, television

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE


A. Preparation
1. Routine
Prayer and Greetings
2. Attendance and Classroom Management
3. Checking of Assignments

B. Motivation
1. The teacher will let the students read the following sentences:
a. The food was excellent, likewise the wine.
b. Andrea is good in singing but she is weak in dancing.

C. Presentation of the Objectives


1. The teacher will present the objectives of the lesson and let the students read them.
a. Identify the different types of cohesive devices;
b. Discuss the importance of cohesive devices; and
c. Use cohesive devices in constructing sentences and paragraphs.

IV. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON


A. Activity
1. The teacher will divide the class into three groups.
2. The teacher will give out 2 different cohesive device examples for each group. Each
group will formulate sentences using the given examples.
3. The assigned reporter will present the group’s output.

B. Analysis
1. Using the sentences in the first activity, the teacher will ask the following questions
and discuss the answers to the learners.
a. What is the function of the cohesive devices in your sentence?
b. Which cohesive device signal similarity or difference?
c. What is the importance of this kind of transitional device?
C. Abstraction
1. The students will watch the instructional videos prepared by the teacher.
2. The teacher will explain further and provide information from the videos watched.

D. Application
1. Write a two-paragraph essay using the cohesive devices that signal similarity and
difference on the topic below.
a. Things I do during the Enhanced Community Quarantine Period

V. EVALUATION
A. Construct your own sentences using the transitional device indicated. Write your answer in a
½ crosswise.
