Picture 1:

Microsoft windows logo

Picture 2:

Microsoft windows desktop

What is Microsoft (MS) Windows? Microsoft (MS) Windows is an operating

system that provides a graphical user
interface or GUI, which is a visual

computer environment with pictorial
representation of computer functions,
programs, files and data.

A desktop is the large area onscreen

What is a desktop? with some small pictures or icons that
can be seen after turning on the
computer.

Lesson Proper:
Alright, MS windows is a kind of
operating system that is needed in order
for the computer to turn on. Then, once
the computer is turned on you will see
an area on the screen with some
pictures or icons that is called Windows
Desktop.

The desktop is your workspace on the We can access or open the programs
screen. So, what do you think you can installed in the computer such as
do once you are already on the emails, games, web pages and many
desktop? more.

What are the things you can see on the Picture, icons, start menu, task bar and
desktop? the system tray.

Can you identify them in the picture? Some students will go in front to label
the picture that is posted on the board.

Okay, well done!

The first thing you can see on a desktop

is the wallpaper. What do you mean by Wallpaper is the pattern, picture or
a wallpaper? image that is displayed as screen
background.
Alright! So, the wallpaper can be
changed depending on what you want,
you can select from the list included in
the windows program or you can use
your own image file.

Okay, next are the icons. What do you

think are their purpose? Icons are graphic symbol on a computer
display screen that represent programs,
objects or functions.
That is right! Icons have names, called
3
Filenames, that identify from each other.
You double-click or right click on an icon
to open the file, or folder or whatever
the icon represents.

Can you give some examples of icons

on a computer? My Computer, My Documents, Recycle
Bin, Internet Explorer, etc.
Alright, so icons can be different
depending on your own computer set-
up.

Next is the taskbar. What do you think is

the use of Taskbar? The Taskbar contains the Start Menu
and the Quick Launch bar. It shows
programs that are currently running by
displaying their window buttons, and the
current time on the system tray.
Okay, so once you open a file or
program you can see it on the taskbar.
The Start menu is where you can find
the power button and other programs
installed on the computer. The system
tray is also known as the notification
area.

Generalization:
Now, you are familiar with the things
that can be seen on a windows desktop
and their uses.

So, again can you differentiate MS MS Windows is the operating system

Windows from a Desktop? that provides a graphical user interface
which is needed for the computer to
operate while desktop is the workspace
onscreen that contains icons, wallpaper,
and the taskbar.

What about icons, wallpaper and Icons are graphic symbol on a computer
taskbar? for a file, program, or function.
Wallpaper is the picture or image
displayed as screen background on the
desktop. Taskbar contains Start Menu,
Quick Launch bar and the system tray
where you can see the currently running
