USER GUIDE FOR

REMOTE LEARNING
PLATFORMS

The current challenging circumstances present us all with an amazing, unique opportunity to learn in
new ways and we have carefully curated a wide range of really engaging ways for pupils to learn
remotely.

This booklet introduces you to many of the tools we will use and will hopefully help with any issues
that arise during this exciting journey.
Firefly Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

To log in to this platform, go to meoncross.fireflycloud.net and you

will see this logon page:

You can log in with your username and password supplied for as
usual or your child in Years 6-11 can log on using their @meo-
student.co.uk Office 365 credentials using the Office 365 button on
the right.

You could also download the ‘firefly for students’ app (or firefly for
parents app) – the school password is MEONCROSS.

For VLE related password resets and queries please contact:

[email protected]

You can also watch this help video: https://youtu.be/97pWETJH_04

Once logged in, your child will see their dashboard, which shows any tasks set by staff for the students. There are
also lots of resources in the subject pages, which teachers may link to or refer pupils to during in the course of task
completion.

Any work your child is required to complete will be sent directly as a task and this may include further instructions
on how to access content through other platforms.

Tips for students:

If your teacher requires you to upload completed work, pupils need to click on the task they have set. This will then
load the details of the task with a bar above it, which will have three buttons. The first allows you to attach a file to
send to the teacher - please remember to click the blue ‘send file’ button at the end of uploading. The second button
marks the task as complete and the last will allow you to comment on the task and ask the teacher questions.
Teachers can also send feedback to you in this way to help you along.

If you need to message a teacher then generally it is best to email them, if it is about the task you can send a
comment and they should get a notification this has happened.

Please also ensure you mark your tasks as ‘done’ each day. If you do not, then any ‘overdue’ tasks will appear first,
and you will struggle to find the latest work. Additionally, when you click on the button ‘view more tasks’ you will see
a full list of your tasks, you can filter these by teacher or lesson by clicking the boxes on the left, make sure you
untick them afterwards or it will only show tasks from that teacher. Otherwise, you are expected to check the
platform every day, you will need to ensure that you are proactive in completing work regularly as close to your
usual timetable as possible.
Microsoft Teams

This will predominantly be used to teach lessons remotely using the video meetings feature and teachers will make
students aware as to the time this will occur, these will be class based and not 1 to 1 sessions. Live lessons will be
recorded by the teacher for safeguarding purposes.

To use Microsoft Teams, pupils will ideally download the Microsoft Teams Portal app which can be easily found on
the internet, however they can use Microsoft Teams in a browser instead if need be. Pupils will use their new
@students.meoncross.co.uk address to login, which is shared via the VLE in the report section. This will then take
them into the Teams portal. You can also watch these help videos:

 Logging on: https://youtu.be/97pWETJH_04

 Using Teams: https://youtu.be/kXd9HPZMjqQ

The bell symbol will let you know of any Your Teams classes will have been
recent activity across your groups. organised for you or teachers will give you
a code with which you can join a class

If you need to join a

video lesson you will
receive an invite, this
will appear in your
activity notifications
too.

If you click on specific Teams, it will take you into the channel for the group where you can add comments or join
discussions. There may be several channels within a team, these will appear on the left-hand side. Teachers will
create separate channels for different topics or for areas they want to split. If you click on each channel you can
access its resources.

Each channel has a separate area to work in, at the top you will see ‘posts, ‘files’ and any other tabs the staff have
added. Here you will find the specific comments or files for that channel.

Staff may set you assignments through Teams and if that is the case, you will get a notification on the left-hand side
with the other symbols. Work set in Teams will also be signposted in tasks on the VLE, where possible.

If you have any issues with Teams, contact your teacher directly by email or for technical issues please contact Mr
Barratt via email.

ClickView

Teachers may choose to send you video content or questions through clickview, this is a platform that syncs directly
through the VLE. This will require you to log in through your Office 365 login using @meo-student.co.uk. LS pupils
please contact your tutor in the first instance, again if you have a technical issue please contact Mr Trollope.

Email: [email protected]

Clickview is designed to use short clips to enhance the lesson and your understanding, if videos are embedded into
the VLE they will automatically load, you may have to use a computer to do this as certain phones do not support all
of the video features offered.

This is Language and Active Learn

thisislanguage.com and pearsonactivelearn.com will be used by the Modern Foreign Languages team and pupils
already have log in details for this. In the event of needing to reset their passwords for these sites they should
contact their teacher.
