Newton Raphson Method

The document discusses Newton's method for finding roots of functions. It explains that when the root has a multiplicity greater than 1, the standard Newton's method formula needs to be modified. Specifically, when the multiplicity of the root is M, the derivative term in the formula should be replaced by the Mth derivative, which will be non-zero at a root of multiplicity M. An example is given where the root has multiplicity 2, so the first derivative term is replaced by the second derivative term. The modified Newton's method formula is then able to find roots correctly even when they have a multiplicity greater than 1.
