2. General
This document applies to Bruker OES instruments running ELEMENTAL SUITE software version V5.0.0 or
higher.
ELEMENTAL SUITE software can be installed on Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 operation
systems (32/64 bit). Windows XP is not supported!
Important: See chapter Install FTDI drivers or USB Server for CCD Readout System!
The installer file Elemental.Suite.Setup.exe is located on an USB stick.
The installation medium will be created/updated by Software Development Department.
In case when the instrument is shipped without a PC, the installation medium also contains a backup of
customer’s data.
Important: Control Panel in Windows 10 can be opened from Start Menu or from Windows Settings

Click on Start Menu and write into search field Control Panel, open Control Panel

3. Prepare the PC
Second Network Adapter
Desktop PC
By default a second network adapter is used to connect the instrument with the PC. In most cases this is a PCI-
Express card.
Notebook
When using a notebook, the on-board network connection is used to connect the instrument with the pc. If the
notebook needs additional network connection to another network, Wireless or USB/ExpressCard network
adapter should be used for that.

4. Initial PC Setup
Switch on the PC.
Remove any pre-installed Programs
Remove any third-party software that will not be necessary to run ELEMENTAL SUITE on the computer.
For example:
• McAfee Security Center (or other security programs)
• …
Change User Account (UAC) Control Settings
Go to: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\ Change User Account Control Settings
Turn off Windows Firewall
Go to: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Firewall\Customize Settings\Windows Firewall
Go to: Turn Windows Firewall on or off
Alternatively, you can open ports for ELEMENTAL SUITE and CCD Server (recommended for Windows 10)
Go to: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced

Inbound Rules -> New Rule -> Select Program
Select program path C:\Program Files (x86)\Bruker AXS\CCD\CCDRPCServer\CCDRPCServer.exe
Select “Allow the connection”

Select all network locations
Choose name and click finish
Repeat it for C:\Program Files (x86)\Bruker AXS\ELEMENTAL.V5\framework.exe
Turn off Windows Updates (Windows 7)
Go to: Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update

Configure Power Options
Go to: Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options
Go to: Choose what the power button does
Select Shut down and save Changes.
Go to: Change when the computer sleeps
Select Never for both options and save changes.

Go to: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center
Go to: Change adapter settings
Right-click on the icon of the network adapter, that will be used for instrument connection and choose Properties.

5. Install ELEMENTAL SUITE
The logged-on user must have administrative privileges on the local computer in order to install software!
From the installation medium double click the file Elemental.Suite.Setup.exe.
Now follow instructions on screen and enter information accordingly.
6. Install USB drivers for CCD Readout System
For devices connected via network to PC i.e. Q4 TASMAN, please install Virtual Link Software (SX Virtual
Link) after ELEMENTAL SUITE installation
Strongly recommended for Windows 10 operating system to download newest FTDI driver from vendor

Now plug in the USB or network cable.
Select all devices in SX Virtual Link
Windows will detect 10 new devices.
Go to: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Computer Management -> Device Manager
Right Click on new device and select “Update driver”

Select “Browse my computer for driver sofware”
Navigate to downloaded driver path or C:\Program Files\Bruker AXS\Utils\FTDI (older driver)

Repeat last step “Update driver” for all new devices
Wait until Windows has installed the driver for all the new devices.
Verify that there are at least 10 COM Ports having unique numbers.

7. Install DAQ drivers for SHMUX Readout System
There is a setup utility for the DT321 DAQ card in C:\Program Files\Bruker AXS\Utils\DT321\.
Start the program SetupOem.exe and follow the instructions.
8. Restore Data for Customer from Installation Medium (at customer)
In case when the instrument is shipped without a PC, customer’s data must be restored from the backup that is
located on the installation medium.
From the windows start menu select Bruker Elemental Suite OES\Tools\Backup And Restore.
Push the three restore buttons one after the other and select the backup files on the installation medium
accordingly.
Now the customer’s data is restored to the local PC.
Don’t forget to explain customer to run periodical backups to an external drive using the
Backup And Restore tool!
