COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW
COURSE GUIDE IN REMEDIAL INSTRUCTION 2

This course aims to develop the ability of pre-service English teachers to organize, design, implement and evaluate a
remedial English program in any of the four-macro skills. This three-unit course in Remedial Instruction in English
deals with the strategies and methods of contemporary English language teaching. This is geared for English
language learners who are faced with difficulty in communicative competence in one or more domains. It also attempts
to provide actual remediation through hands-on practice and various situational case studies.

COURSE GOALS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES


By the end of the semester, the pre-service teachers must have:

1. Exemplified content knowledge and application of the concepts, principles, methods, and strategies of remedial instruction.
2. Analyzed the learners, their learning difficulties, and needs in connection with English proficiency through secondary
sources and qualitative and quantitative data based on the interviews of experienced English language teachers in the
community
3. Apply research-based knowledge and principles of remedial instruction in designing English proficiency tests and remedial
programs in the English language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
