Maintenance Manual
1. Presentation
1.1 Document Overview
This document describes the maintenance procedure for all the different parts of the ATMS
equipment’s. It also describes the periodicity of these maintenance procedures.

1.2 Application Field


This document is designed for the use of the maintenance technical staff. All the following
procedures cover the maintenance actions required at the maintenance level.

This document assumes that the maintenance personnel are familiar with the lane operational
procedures.

2. ATMS equipment maintenance

2.1. EMERGENCY CALL BOX (ECB)


2.1.1. Method
Cleaning

 Clean the ECB inside with portable blower/Cotton Cleaner with taking precaution for
OFC Patch cord & also clean the outside body.

2.1.2. Emergency Call Boxes performance


 Check speaker & mike performance as a call to the control room, & also check sound
Echo incoming & outgoing call, ECB identification & status at ATMS control room.

 Check ECB electronic, media convertor be firmly connected to position.


 OFC Patch cord power with using OFC power meter.
2.1.3. Cables
 Check all lead cables/patch cord for damages or cuts. If damaged, rectify by either replacing or
repairing (re-splicing) the cables.
 Check all wire splices. Check & ensure that all splices are properly coated with water proofing
tape.
2.1.4. Precaution
 This process must only be carried out with consciousness of road traffic, with safety wears.
2.1.5. Frequency
 Quarterly

2.2. VARIABLE MESSAGE SIGN (VMS)
2.2.1. Method
Outside cleaning

 Clean with a non-detergent soap all the outside surface of the equipment cabinets
Inside cleaning

 Remove the dust with a vacuum cleaner.


2.2.2. Physical Inspection & PM
 Check all electrical connectors, cables, term panels, cooling fan, LED Bricks, Power Supply and
cards are tightened firmly.
 Visual check the LED’s for control and sequence of the operation of the interface components
 Check all the Power switches
 All wires are firmly connected to their respective terminal blocks.
2.2.3. Precaution
 Avoid putting water inside the equipment.
 Do not use a high-pressure cleaning device.
 Be careful of the equipment under power.
 Switch the power off before cleaning
2.2.4. Frequency
 Quarterly

2.3. MOBILE RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (MRCS)


2.3.1. Cleaning:
 Clean the MRCS repeaters & cabinets inside & outside.
2.3.2. Physical Check-up
 Physically check all cables & coaxial cable from tower antenna to repeater.
 Check both sides BNC connector connected as it should be.
 Check MRCS tower lightening arrester wiring & configuration be ok, surge protector installed in
between root of coaxial cable.
 Check all mounted & user base MRCS unit’s (Vehicle base MRCS, walky-talky) each switch &
cable connector is OK.
 Check all mounted & user base MRCS units (Vehicle base MRCS, walky-talky) are properly
working with noiseless & echoless voice communication on respective frequency.
2.3.3. Precautions
 Avoid putting water inside the equipment.
 Do not use a high-pressure cleaning device.
 Be careful of the equipment under power.
 Switch the power off before cleaning

2.4. AUTOMATIC VEHICLE COUNTER & CLASSIFIER (ATCC)
2.4.1. Method
 Clean TCC machine & pole mounted box from inside with a non-detergent soap/portable blower.
 Check ATCC pole erected straight & base screws are tightened.
 Check Loop/piezo sensor insulation with using multi meter, Loop/piezo sensor impedance with using
multi meter; check all loop continuity with using multi meter.
 Check loop/piezo sensor’s installed road slots, if any road crack recognize, thus refill instantaneously
with using sealant or hard bitumen.
 Physically verified the vehicle classification at TCC display,1-hour real time monitoring of every lane’s
passing vehicle
 Remove the dust inside of the cabinet (scraps, etc…). Check for:
 all screws and nuts have been tightened firmly,
 all pivot points not loose,
 all wires are firmly connected to their respective terminal blocks.
2.4.2. Precaution
 Avoid putting water inside the equipment.
 Do not use a high-pressure cleaning device.
 Be careful of the equipment under power.
 Switch the power off before cleaning
2.4.3. Frequency
 Quarterly

2.5. SYSTEM COMPUTERS/SERVERS


2.5.1. Method
 Logout from Software and shutdown the computer (Avoid shutting down the server)
 Carry out a visual check and clean Monitor & CPU with a cloth & non-detergent soap if necessary
 Open lane computer housing and remove all dust from the internal hardware.
 Clean mouse and keyboard with soft hair brush
 Keyboard should be cleaned once a week with dry air (tilt upside down and blow out)
 Mouse keys should be blown out with dry air on a weekly basis also.
 Check all electrical connectors and cables are tightened firmly.
2.5.2. Precaution
 Do not touch any electronic board without electrostatic discharge protection measures.
 The keyboards should have skins on them. 
2.5.3. Frequency
 Monthly (unless specified)
2.5.4. Suggestions
 The computer/server owner / operator should keep the area as clean as possible (regular
cleaning inside the booth)
 Place the computers/server in Air-conditioned section of the floor as much as possible as it will
help in preventing dust from entering the computer cabinet.

2.6. VIDEO INCIDENT DETECTION SYSTEM (VIDS)
2.6.1. Method
 Clean interior and exterior of the camera housing
 Clean the lens window of the camera with non-detergent soap.
 Check there is neither water nor condensation inside the camera housing
 Check camera cable is tightly connected to computer
 Check all electrical connectors and cables are tightened firmly.
 Check the ethernet cable is not stretched.
 Realign the Camera Position.
 Check the Fixing Hardware and bolts are securely tightened.
 Check the camera capture video/image at stored & software location.
2.6.2. Precautions
 Do not use high pressure cleaning device.
 This test must only be carried out if the lane is closed
2.6.3. Frequency
 Quarterly

2.7. METEOROLOGICAL STATION


2.7.1. Method
Cleaning

 Clean with a non-detergent soap all the outside body & all MET sensors of the equipment.
2.7.2. Maintenance & Physical Check-up
 MET base tripod/pole erected tightly.
 All sensor & data logger, card boxes/unit mounted delicately at respective location, check all
screw are tightened.
 Blow rust, sand and other particles with vacuum cleaner from inside the MET cables termination
box.
 Realign the sensor if any sensor’s alignment not appropriate.
 Check all sensors’ reading locally in laptop with using MET application.
 Check road sensor’s physical conditions, all feeder cable & sensor cable condition.
2.7.3. Precaution
 The process only be carried out with consciousness of road traffic.
 Safety wears are applicable to wear for safety issue.
2.7.4. Frequency
 Quarterly

2.8. PTZ SURVEILLANCE CAMERA
2.8.1. Method
 Clean interior and exterior of the camera housing
 Clean the lens window of the camera with non-detergent soap.
 Check there is neither water nor condensation inside the camera housing
 Check camera cable is tightly connected to computer
 Check all electrical connectors and cables are tightened firmly.
 Check the ethernet cable is not stretched.
 Realign the Camera Position.
 Check the Fixing Hardware and bolts are securely tightened.
2.8.2. Precautions
 Do not use high pressure cleaning device.
 This test must only be carried out if lane is diverted
2.8.3. Frequency
 Quarterly

2.9. CONDUITS
2.9.1. Method
 Visually inspect all the conduits both inside the booth and outside the booth.
 If find any damage conduit, repair or replace the same
2.9.2. Precaution
 Ensure to cover or close any open conduits.
 Make sure that no cables are without conduits
2.9.3. Frequency
 Quarterly

2.10. SOLAR PANELS


2.10.1. Method
 Clean interior and exterior of the Solar Panel
 Check there is neither water nor condensation inside the solar panel
 Check solar cable is tightly connected to the battery
 Check all electrical connectors and cables are tightened firmly.
 Realign the Solar Panel
 Check the Fixing Hardware and bolts are securely tightened.
2.10.2. Precaution
 Ensure to cover or close any open conduits.
 Make sure that no cables are without conduits
2.10.3. Frequency
 15 days

2.11. UNINTERRUPTED POWER SUPPLY
2.11.1. Method
Cleaning

 Wipe off the dust with clean cloth


 Clean the UPS with cloth and non-detergent soap.
2.11.2. Maintenance & Physical Check-up
 Check the UPS is working properly on inverter & bypass mode
 Check all electrical connectors, cables and components
 Check the Shut Down Software.
 Carry out a visual check on the rotation of the UPS fan.

2.11.3. Precautions
 Do not touch any electronic board without electrostatic discharge protection measures.
2.11.4. Frequency
 Monthly

2.12. EARTH PROTECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT


The following procedure should apply to all ATMS metallic equipment such as:

 Variable Massage Sign board (VMS)


 Video Incident Detection System (VIDS)
 Pan Tilt Zoom Camera (PTZ)
 Mobile Radio Communication Station (MRCS)
2.12.1. Method
 Tighten the locking nut of the earth-braided conductor.
 Check with the use of a milli-ohmmeter that the electrical resistance between the earth braid
conductor and the metallic parts described thereafter is lower than 1 Ohm.
2.12.2. Precaution
 Switch off the electrical power
2.12.3. Frequency
 Twice a year
