Instructions Plan for a Single Lesson

Name: McKendra Mount Date: 12/7/21 Grade: 1 st

Subject/Topic: 5 Senses/ Health, Safety, and Physical Education

Objectives: (Observable and Measureable – action verbs)


The Students Will Be Able To (TSWBAT):
1. The students will be able to identify their five senses.

2. The students will be able to describe objects using their five senses.

Standards: (What PA Standards or Eligible Content do the objectives above support? Add standards as

1. 10.1.1.B1 - identify and describe functions of basic body parts and organs.

2. CC.1.3.1.F – identify words and phrases in stories or poems that suggest feelings or appeal to
the senses.

Instructional Materials: (Include all materials, technology, etc)


1. Worksheet

2. PowerPoint

3. Objects for each sense station (coffee, candy, cotton balls, & bells)

4. Mr. Potato Head

Introduction: (Attention Getter, Anticipatory Set, “Hook”, Motivate)

Introduction of special guset Mr. Potato Head to review the senses

Procedures: ( Step by step bullets of how your lesson will develop. Include questions you will ask and
examples you will provide)
 Introduction to the topic with the Mr. Potato Head
 Review question about the 5 senses
 Use Mr. Potato head to review what each sense is for
 Go through the example questions in the PowerPoint
 Explain the directions of the worksheet and the stations
 Have the students go to each station and write on their worksheet
 Bring the students back together and go over what each of the stations were
 Review what we learned and preview what we will learn tomorrow

Closure: (A brief wrap-up of questions for students to check to see if they met your objectives. Not a
place for assignments or homework (they are included at the end of “procedure”)

2. Giving the ELL a worksheet with directions in Spanish and a worksheet in English

3. Allowing the ELL to write in their native language, English, or a mix

4. Using a hands-on approach with the stations will allow the ELL to follow along with the lesson
easier (stations)

5. I will use visuals (Mr. Potato Head) for the ELL to see what senses we are discussing

6. I will write on the whiteboard what the 5 senses are and some examples of how we use them.
7. ELL will receive a print out of the PowerPoint to look/read at their own pace or refer back to.
