Reaction Paper: The
Movie The Count of
Monte Cristo
INTRODUCTION:
The story “The Count of Monte Cristo” revolved around between the rich and the poor
people can or cannot do when it comes to influence and power, and the revenge of Edmond
Dantes. Edmond Dantes is a good-hearted and God-fearing person, a sailor who had a bright
future ahead at the moment he's imprisoned: he was about to be promoted and to marry the
woman he loved so dearly. His life is ruined because of others envy to him especially his friend
Fernand Mondego, who betrayed him and and later takes his fiance Mercédès as his own wife.
Edmond Dantes was the victim of an unfortunate coincidence, because of lack of education, he
doesn’t know how to read and write, thus, he wasn’t able to know what the letter is all about
which was then a plan of rebellion by Bonaparte. It tells us how important education is to our
lives. It is hard to be uneducated. We need to learn for us to grow and to develop ourselves.
BODY:
The story is full of hope. As the line “God will give me justice” which Edmond Dantes
engraved in the wall on the prison. That hope keeps Edmond Dantes alive. But time comes that
Edmund lost his trust to God because he waited for so long but there’s no God who came to save
him. He thought that God was never there in those times he needed his companion and was never
a God of justice. Hence, he never believed in God as if God never existed. As his priest friend he
meets in the prison named Abbé Faria said, God believes in you. ´ Abbé Faria who became his
teacher, who educate him to read, write, to fight in a duel, to be strong and brave and many more
things that made him to be an educated man. This is how Edmond becomes the Count, a man
with a brilliant mind, intelligent; with possessions that grant him a new life, and starts his
vengeance to those people who betrayed him and suffered him hardships in prison that even lead
him to death.
CONCLUSION:
The life story of Edmond Dantes is still happening nowadays though it is very rare. This
reminds us that even somehow many hindrances, hardships and problems that may come and that
we may encounter every day. We must learn to stand up, have the will to survive in this kind of
world that is full of trials in life and have the strength to hold on and fight for our right for the
right to have freedom and that Edmond Dantes was able to return what he lost, the love of
Mercedes and his son Albert. Though he took revenge to the people who betrayed him, he only
thought them a lesson that not all the time they are in power, everything has an end. The story
also thought us that wrong things are not meant forever. Every bad thing we done to others; it
will always come back to us. So we must always do good, live in God’s love so that we have
peace in this world.

1. What I feel about the movie is sadness, anger and pity for innocent people.
2. No because he betrayed him and imprison for a 14 years for a crime that he did not
commit and also the prison staff tortured him for a such a long time.
3. the character that i like in the movie is Edmond Dantes and Albert de Morcerf. because
albert is a brave, honest, and kind and dantes is a man that intelligent, honest and loving
man who turns bitter and vengeful after he is framed for a crime he did not commit.
4. Dantes because he has a good heart and being have a intelligence mind.
5. While in prison, however, Dantès undergoes a great change. He becomes bitter and
vengeful as he obsesses over the wrongs committed against him. When his companion,
Abbé Faria, dies, so too does Dantès's only remaining deep connection to another human
being. It because of the advice of Faria and he realized that all of the words that he said to
him is can be a key to regain a hope And he understood this so that his heart would be
even stronger and he would have hope even though he was inside the prison.
6. Until the day when God will deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is
contained in these two words, Wait and hope. Because it gave them a hope that God is
into them even, They did not commit the crime and that time they realized that God is
watching them all the time and guiding them until the end of their lives.
7. Napolean said. "In this life we are either kings or pawns; emporers or fools." You either
make history or become part of it. You lead or you follow. You have the power or you
don't.
8. Faria is a priest and his ability to think and find the options of the answers is brilliant.
Being in the same prison, he spends lots of the time with Dantès and becomes his
intellectual instructor. He helps Edmond to find the willingness to the learning and
teaches him art, science, history, and lots of languages.
9. For years, Abbe Faria teaches Dantes and eventually tells him about an enormous buried
treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. He promises the wealth to Dantes before he dies.
Dantes escapes by hiding within Abbe Faria's burial shroud. He finds the treasure and
becomes the titular Count of Monte Cristo.
