above data (let the width of your classes to be 10 units).
b) Develop a cumulative frequency and a cumulative relative frequency
distribution.
c) How many patients whose systolic blood pressure was at least 90 𝑚𝑚𝐻?
d) Construct the histogram to the above data set.

Question 3
Shultz, Inc. is a large carpet manufacturing firm. The following data represent Shultz’s yearly
sales volume and their advertising expenditures over a period of 10 years.

Year Sales volume (𝑦) Advertising Expenditure (𝑥)

(Time) ($ Dollars) ($ Millions)
1980 26 1.8
1981 31 2.3
1982 28 2.6
1983 30 2.4
1984 34 2.8
1985 38 3.0
1986 41 3.4
1987 44 3.2
1988 40 3.6
1989 43 3.8

a) Develop a scatter diagram for the above data.

b) What does the scatter diagram developed in part a) indicate about the relationship
between the two variables?

c) What kind of model would be an appropriate model for representing the relationship
between the two variables?
d) Develop a least-squares estimated regression line of the sales volume (y) on the
advertising expenditure (x) and explain what the slope of the line indicates.

Question 4

The following data set was obtained from the manager of a city water department for predicting
the consumption of water (in gallons) from the size of households

Household Size (𝑥) Water used (𝑦)

2 650
7 1200
9 1300
4 430
12 1400
6 900
9 1800
3 640
3 793
2 925

Using OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) estimation method, determine the appropriate value
of the coefficient estimates of the equation of the least squares regression for water
consumption on household size and predict the water consumption for a household size
of 10 persons.

Question 5
The members of an orchestra were asked how many instruments each could play. Here are
their results: 2, 5, 2, 4, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 3
3, 2, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4, 3, 2
1, 2, 3, 1, 4, 2, 3, 1, 1, 2
Find:

a) The mean number of instruments played

b) Variance of the instruments played

Question 6
a) The mean for the number of pages of women’s fitness magazines is 132, with variance of
23; the mean of the number of advertisements of a sample of women’s fitness magazine is 182
with a variance of 62. Compare the variations.

b) A survey of local companies found that the mean amount of travel allowance for couriers was
$0.25 per mile. The standard deviation was $0.02. Using Chebyshev’s theorem, find the
minimum percentage of the data values that will fall between $0.20 and $0.30.

Question 7

Question 9
The sampling procedures that are commonly used in research are divided into two main parts:

- Probability based sampling procedures and
