Group 2 Concept Synthesis

The proposed concept is to establish a social enterprise called "Kleen Drain" in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City to address improper garbage disposal and unemployment. Kleen Drain will manufacture artisanal goods from recycled plastic bottles collected from the community. A key product will be drainage nets created from plastic bottles to address flooding. This will provide income to residents and reduce unemployment. THE CONCEPT THE TARGET USERS

1. Who are the main USERS of the proposed solutions?

- The main users of the proposed solutions are from Brgy. Carreta in Cebu City
since they have copious amounts of waste or garbage owing to a lack of
adequate drainage or waste disposal.

2. Determine the key characteristics that define potential users of the proposed
solutions.

- The waste that is gathered once proper segregation is put into place will then be
turned into recycled items which is a drainage net created from different kinds of
plastic bottles. This will serve as a community's income source and a solution to
the problem, all while promoting a better and greener environment in the area.

Specify

3. If possible, specify each segment of society. Determine the number of users in

each major segment. Provide evidence of a sufficient size of users to support the
proposed project. Show Data.

- PhilAtlas conducted a Census on 2020, it presented Barangay Carreta has 11,

398 population, wherein it has a portion of 1.18% in the Cebu City population.
With that, to specify the segment of society; demographics will showcase the
situation of Barangay Carreta’s population through household, by age group, and
historical population.

4. Are there other communities that face this kind of social problem? Can the
solution be adapted for use by other users?

- There are a great number of communities in Cebu that also face this similar
social issue, particularly in the lowland areas. This solution can most likely be
modified for use in other communities because improper practice of garbage
disposal is the common cause of the problem in these areas which may pose
serious risks to public health and the environment.

5. Present facts and evidence supporting the NEED of each segment's primary
users. Does your solution meet the critical needs of the users?

- Residents of Barangay Carreta

In the specific area of barangay Carretta, the majority of the population consist
of Low income households. According to the Department of Housing and
Community Development’s (HCD) 2016 Low-income Limits “Low-income
households” are those with household incomes at or below 80 percent of the
statewide median income. Making drainage nets and selling them to the local
barangay and to other barangay in the city is a great opportunity for the residents
of Barangay Carretta to make income and is also a great solution to meet their
needs.
- Garbage Collectors and Local Recycling Companies
There is a high garbage collection in the area due to the waste disposal problem
in the community. The high garbage collection stresses the Garbage Collectors
and Local Recycling Companies and can also cause garbage collection injuries.
Our solution helps the Garbage Collectors and Local Recycling Companies in
collecting high amounts of garbage in the area. It will easen their job and easen
their other problems too.
- Barangay Officials and the Local Government
The high garbage collection will also be needing a wide allocation area that may
take up a great part of the barangay. It is a big problem for the Barangay Officials
and the Local Government to have landfills for the garbage collected. Also,
having drainage problems by the residents is a need for the Barangay Officials
and the Local Government to find solutions. By this activity, the high garbage
collection will be lessened because the plastic bottles will be made into soda
strings and eventually into drainage nets that will answer the drainage problem.
- Future Social Entrepreneurs.
Future Social Entrepreneurs may need resources for their future plans. The
paper will help them address the health issues caused by the garbage disposal
problems. This also serves as their guide to further create ideas pertaining to the
issues mentioned in this proposal.

IDEAS TO CONCEPT

6. Discuss the proposed concept of the project. The concept should demonstrate
and articulate the target users, needs, and benefits. It describes the tangible
outcome or benefit of the project. ( Idea Selection Concept Development).

Poor garbage disposal are the social issues that stand out in Barangay Carreta.
Ineffective waste removal might spread pathogens and lead to barangay floods. In order
to solve this, a social enterprise would be established to assist in lowering the
population's unemployment rate and reducing the likelihood of catching diseases. Kleen
Drain sells artisanal goods that are manufactured from recycled materials and have
lasting value.

Garbage is a growing issue in Carreta that is steadily becoming more concerning

for the locals since it can lead to regular floods, which will become more dangerous and
put the locals at risk as the problem worsens. By seeing the potential in garbage, Kleen
Drain seeks to solve that issue. Products from the Kleen Drain line are created with
different recycled plastic bottles. The Brgy's daily rubbish is the source of all the
recycled materials. Carreta region before being turned into a range of products,
specifically a drainage net, all the materials are cleaned, checked for any dangerous
ingredients, and tested for durability and safety. Since the material is produced locally,
primarily from waste that still has promise, Kleen Drain offers an inexpensive selection
of products that are sustainable and inventive for everyone. The citizens of the brgy will
receive the entire profit. Carreta. Given that the bulk of the residents are from the
low-income neighborhood, the additional money will act as financial support. The
primary goal is to find a sustainable and advantageous solution to barrio Carreta's
mounting garbage issue. The product's major target market includes locals,
environmentalists, eco-conscious consumers, and pretty much anyone else looking to
buy long-lasting goods at a reasonable price.

As a result of this business, there will be fewer unemployed people in Barangay

Carreta since they will have the chance to work for the company making personalized
items and basic household items. To assist in educating and preparing the community's
citizens, Kleen Drain is being sought out in cooperation with TESDA to oversee and
supervise technical education and skills development.

Residents of Barangay Carreta in Cebu City, especially the neighborhood's

unemployed youth, benefit from this social enterprise because it offers them
employment chances. The information gathered from this study will be helpful to future
aspirant social entrepreneurs, who can use it as a resource for managing waste
associated with social problems. External issues must be taken into account when
developing this enterprise. It will support the political, economic, environmental, social,
and legal aspects of the community's strategic growth.
