 CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
The project entitled Online Application for Salon Management System with Mobile App Support
is a cloud-based technology for managing hair salon. The application is designed and developed
using web technologies such as PHP and MariaDs for the backend programming and Bootstrap
for front-end or for the design and interface of the project. Aside from being an online
application, it is also compatible for mobile devices because the design is responsive with web-
based Onine Applican for Salon Management system is tne solution to upgrade the manual
method of business transaction between the management and the customers. It will cover
appointment scheduling, billling for customers, customer's records management, integrated
point of sale and inventory module, mobile access, reports management and database
maintenance.With the implementation of this project, the researchers believe that it will be a
great help for the management and employees of salon and to its clients as well.

Background of the project

Traditional way of having a salon services is to go personally to the salon and choose the
desired service needed, while on online reservation it provide hassle free method for the
costomer for all the services needed are just done online, through the Salon’s online
reservation system . Midsayap Salon is located at Midsayap Cotabato is offering services like
Hair Rebounding ,Hair Color , Hair treatment and other services. Costomer who just wants her
hair trimmed might go to the beauty salon. If a cutomer choose to have a full service
accommodation then there is an available skilled staff in the salon to performe the request of
the costomer . If a costomer choose to go and visit a salon in person , there might be a big
chances that the salon staff is not available and this will consume of waiting in the part of the
customer to save time and money , rather then going to the salon physically and spending so
much time for waiting to the available salon staff of the salon.
1.2 Objective of the project

General objectives: The main goal of this project is to design and develop a system that will
increase the Salon’s efficiency in delivering service to their clients.
1. Allows registrations of local salons in the system of uploading salon profile and business
permit.
2. Manage registrations in the system of the salon
3. Manage salon information (Customers, employees and inventory.)
4. Allows reservation of salon services in a manageable amount.

1.3 significance of the study

The following will benefit from this:
The customers - Through online salon service reservation, either hair treatment or haircut will
be hassle-free and there will be no need to go in the phone in for reservation.
Beauty salon -They can can gain more customer as the app is able to attain feedback either
anonymously , which depends on the customer’s preference.
Proponents -The success of this study will contribute to their knowledge and skills as
developers and programmers. Aside from the technical skill, researchers can practice their
software skills in communicating with their respondents.
Future Researcher - The study can serve as their model/guide for their own version of salon
reservation system output of the capstone project comes in two forms, the document and the
source code of the system. Documentation will serve as the literature while the source code
will serve as their guide in system development.

1.4 Scope and Limatation

The system includes some information about the beauty salon, caters online reservation, and
availability of their beauticians. The limitation of this system only covers the reservations of the
salon and feedback for the establishmant’s services . Furthermore, it can not conduct online
payment or access any customer information, unless approved by the user.

1.5 Defination of Terms

Online Researvation – the system allows the clients to schedule, reschedule or cancel their
booking easily with intuitive user interface.
Salon Staff- can be either hair stylist and cosmetologist.
Hair Stylist- beauty service professionals who specialize in the fashioning and treatment of hair.
Customer Relation Management (CRM) – enables a bussiness to identify costs and monitor
increased/decreased profit. System used to organize, automate and track business process.
Browser- an application program that provides a way to look at and interact with all the
information on the World Wibe Web.
Website- a group of world wide web pages usually containing hyperlinks under a single domain
that made a company/ bussiness available online.
Information System- an integrated set of componets for collecting, storing and proccessing
date and providing information, techniques and digital products.
Online Service- it refers to any information and service provided over the internet.
Internet Connection- a connection provided by an internet servive provider that enables
individual computer or other hardware components,either individual computer or other
hardware components, their individually or registered within a local area network, to exchange
data over the internet.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

A beauty salon may just offer haircare of hair styling service or nail services, manicures and
pedicures. Most bussines that are classified as beauty salon offer a combination of hair styling
and nail services. In addition, beauty salons may offer skin care services performed by
esthetecians, including facials, exfoliating scrubs and anti- aging techniquess. Many. Beauty
salonsalso offer cosmetic services such as make up application , eye beautification, and general
makeovers and cosmetic instruction
Salas says that when people talk about beauty, certain things come to mind-makeup or
designer outfit or skincare line-limiting the concept of beauty icon audrey hepburn,however,
disagreed when we said yhat the beauty of the women is not in the clothes she wears, the
figure that she carries, or the way combs her hair. True enough, many will agreee that real

Online Appiontment scheduling in an optional feature that included will all packages of
software. Your business can have its own, customized web site and your clients can book
appointment and view your business information such as services offered, specials, location,
over the internet. This also gives the researcher a background regarding the aspects which have
been studied and not yet studied.
Patricia Mclaughlin (1990), over 26 million people visit a beauty salon ,and 68 of them choose
their own hairdresser of stylist for psychological reasons. Some of customers talking with their
hairstylist for their own problems and many of the customers believe in the advice of the stylist.
Mclaughlin states that “ Too much advertising and you many have overspent “. One of the
biggest challenges of the salon owner is getting the marketing mix right . Over the years ,salon’s
owners learn how to advertise their business in a proper way, a little way and they also doing
trials and errors.
Rather than that Beauty salons may have some difficulties in treating some customers. Marissa
Gold (2013) noted that “ Communicate pretty clearly”. She says that she wanted to have a tiny
trime for her hair but unfortunately the sylist do andhours later her hair cut an inch . And in the
other time the other stylist treaded her eyebrows and then she believe that going to salon
without a proper stylist is such a waste of time.
Melody McCloskey (2013) as a former manager of online content at current TV. The san

a stylist is difficult because oftentimes they ware’t available so you will wait for the next couple
