1. INTRODUCTION
a. Hook
b. Background info
c. Thesis + preview of your body paragraphs

2. BODY PARAGRAPH
a. Topic sentence
b. Supporting sentences = reasons, arguments,
explanation, examples, etc.
c. Concluding sentence
d. Every argument / idea = separate body
paragraph

3. CONCLUSION
a. Paraphrase your thesis
b. Summarizes your ideas / arguments
c. Always start with a transitional word
d. Never bring new information!
MY CHECKLIST
THE STRUCTURE:
! I divide the text into paragraphs, I have:
! An introduction
! One body paragraph per argument / idea
! A conclusion
Introduction:
! There is a strong hook in my introduction
! I wrote some background info about the topic
! There is a thesis statement in my introduction
! There are at least 3 sentences in the introduction
Body paragraph:
! Every body paragraph starts with a topic sentence
! I support every idea / argument with reasons, explanations, examples, etc.
! I use transitional words to connect sentences and have a better flow
Conclusion:
! I start the conclusion with a transitional word
! I summarize my ideas (paraphrase yourself)
! The final sentence makes the reader think about the topic

THE GRAMMAR:
! I checked S-V agreement of all subjects (e.g. she walks)
! I use capitals where necessary
! Every sentence starts with a capital
! Proper names are with capitals
! The pronoun “I” is capitalized
! I use punctuation (comma, period, etc.)
! I have short and clear sentences (clear sentence structure: S-V-O)
! I verified spelling in a dictionary
! I enriched the vocabulary (do not use the same words too often)
! I use formal language (no spoken grammar; e.g. “gonna”, “stuff”, etc.)
! I read my text several times
