BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) is a Special Purpose Vehicle set up
under the administrative control of Ministry of Railways to undertake planning &
development, mobilization of financial resources and construction, maintenance and
operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors. In the first phase, DFCCIL will be constructing
two corridors – the Western DFC and Eastern DFC- spanning a total length of about 3300
route km. The Eastern Corridor, starting from Ludhiana in Punjab and pass through the
states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and terminate at Dankuni in West
Bengal. The Western Corridor will traverse the distance from Dadri to Mumbai, passing
through the states of UP, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Eastern DFC Route will be approximately 1847 Km long from Dankuni to Sahnewal
(Ludhiana) via Dankuni – Asansol – Dhanbad – Gaya – Sonnagar – Mughalsarai – Allahabad -
Kanpur – Tundla Aligarh - Khurja - Hapur – Meerut – Saharanpur – Ambala– Sahnewal.

EDFC Phase-1 covers the construction of double line electrified section of approximately 343
route km length (Double Line) between Bhaupur and Khurja, and EDFC Phase-2 covers the
construction of electrified section covering approximately 388.14 route km length (Double
Line) and approximately 29.15 route km length (Single line) between Mughalsarai and New
Bhaupur (excluding) & EDFC Phase-3 involves construction of single line electrified track of
about 404 route km between Khurja-Meerut-Saharanpur-Ambala-Sahnewal (near Ludhiana).

The Sahnewal – Pilkhani section of Phase -3, covering approximately 182 route km of
Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) is located between Sahnewal – Pilkhani along
Ludhiana to Khurja section of Indian Railway. Sahnewal – Pilkhani section will have Five (5)
junction stations (New Plikhani, New Kalanaur, New Shambhu, New Shirhind and New
Chawa Pail) and Nine (9) Crossing Stations (New Jagadhari, New Darzpuri, New Barara, New
Kesri, New Dukheri, New Ambala, New Sarai Banjara, New Mandi Gobindgarh and New
Khanna). The section has been planned with 1 no of Integrated Maintenance Depot (IMD)
(New Chawa Pail) and 3 no of Integrated Maintenance Sub Depots (IMSD) (New Jagadhari,

EDFC PHASE-3 / CP-304

The route alignment of Freight Corridors is mostly parallel to existing adjacent Indian
Railway Track. However, alignment is on detour at some locations to avoid
social/environmental/wild life impacts. The Project entails construction of double-track
electrified railway lines capable of handling 32.5-ton axle load, longer trains than currently
used on Indian Railways. The bridges and other structures will be designed to allow
movement of 32.5-ton axle load while the track structure will be initially designed for 25-ton
axle load, operating at maximum train speed of up to 100 km/hr.

PREFACE

The purpose of this design document is to provide the Design calculation for structure and its
foundation for 25kV & 132kV Power Supply Installation (PSI) Equipment installed in the Supply Control
Post (SCP) in the CP304 Project. The design philosophies adopted, design checks and the references
used for this design were detailed below.
Design philosophies

The design of foundation for supporting transformer is designed for the weight of transformer (core, coil
and oil). A transverse load due wind pressure and seismic load is also considered in analysis and
design.

The oil bund is designed for a storage capacity of 110% of oil capacity of the transformer. The design
of wall and base slab is performed for loadings due to earth pressure on the outside and base pressure
acting in upward direction respectively.

If any other additional cases encounter in this project, separate design calculation will be provided as a
supplementary to this document in the later stage.

Different Equipment in SCP

This document contains the design for supporting structure for various equipment in SCP listed below:

1) Design of Foundation for 132KV Traction Transformer.

3.0 LOAD CALCULATION

Weight of Transformer including oil = 66 T

SBC @ 1.2 m depth = 15.00 T/m²

Overall depth of foundation (upto Pad) = 1.50 m

Area required = 66 / 15.00

= 4.4 m²

Provided size of foundation = 6.00 x 4.35

= 26.1 m²

Area provided = 6.00 x 4.35

= 26.10 m²

Length of foundation, L (at pad) = 6.00 m

Breadth of foundation, B (at pad) = 4.350 m

Length of foundation, a (at plinth) = 6.00 m

Breadth of foundation, b (at plinth) = 2.00 m

Total Vertical Load

Weight of Transformer = 66.00 T

Weight of foundation = (( 6.00 x 4.350 x 0.85 )+( 6.00 x 2.00 x 0.65 ))

x 2.5

= 74.96 T

Weight of Soil = (( 6.00 x 4.350 )-( 6.00 x 2.00 )) x 0.4

x 1.8

= 8.88 T

Imposed Load (Man with Tools) = 100 Kg

= 0.10 T

Total Vertical Load = 150.56 T

4.0 CHECK FOR EARTHQUAKE LOADS

4.1 CHECK FOR OVERTURNING:

Earthquake zone : IV

Seismic Intensity or Zone Factor (from Table-2 of IS: 1893-2002), Z = 0.24

As per Clause 6.4.2, IS: 1893-2002

Design Horizontal Seismic co-efficient, Ah = (Z x I x Sa)/(2 x R x g)
Where,
I = Importance factor from Table-6 = 1.5

R = Response Reduction Factor from Table-7 = 3 (For OMRF)

8
PROJECT:CP-304 Document No. DOC/CP-304/DGN/DC/0098 REV DATE

DESIGN OF FOUNDATION FOR TRACTION TRANSFORMER 5 17-08-21

Sa/g = Spectral Acceleration Co-efficient from Fig. 2 and Table-3 = 2.5

Therefore, Ah =( 0.24 x 1.5 x 2.5 )/ ( 2 x 3 )
= 0.15

C.G. of the Transformer above rail level = 5.6 / 2

= 2.8 m

Mass of the Transformer concentrated at the C.G. = 66 Tons

C.G. of the Transformer foundation above PCC = 0.75 m

Mass of the Transformer foundation concentrated at the C.G. = 74.96 T

Equivalent horizontal loads due to earthquake

Horizontal Load on Equipment, H1 = 66 x 0.15

= 9.9 T

Horizontal Load on Foundation, H2 = 74.96 x 0.15

= 11.24 T

Overturning moments due to earthquake loads, MO = 9.9 x ( 2.8 + 1.50 ) + 11.2 x 0.75
= 51 Tm

Stabilising moment due to self weight of foundation = 74.96 x ( 4.35 / 2 )

about toe, MSF = 163 Tm

Stabilising moment due to self weight of Equipment = 66 x ( 4.35 / 2 )

about toe, MSE = 143.6 Tm

Total Stabilising Moment, Ms = MSF + MSE = 163 + 144 = 306.6 Tm

Factor of safety against overturning = Ms / Mo = 6.01 > 2.0

Hence Safe

4.2 CHECK FOR SLIDING DUE TO EARTHQUAKE LOADS:

Horizontal earthquake loads = H1 + H2 = 21.14 T

Co-efficient of friction, μ = tan (Ø) = 0.268 (Ø = 15 Degrees, Assumed)

Resistance offered to sliding = 140.96 x μ

= 37.8 T
Factor of safety = 1.79 > 1.5
Hence Safe

DESIGN OF FOUNDATION FOR TRACTION TRANSFORMER 5 17-08-21

5.0 CHECK FOR WIND LOAD

Design wind pressure = 155 Kg./m²

= 0.155 T/m²

Total horizontal wind load acting at 5.6 / 2 = ( 5.6 x 6.2 ) x 0.155

(Taking Wind along Longer Direction) = 5.38 T

Overturning moment, Mo = 5.38 x ( 5.6 / 2 + 1.50 )

= 23.14 Tm

Stabilising moment due to self weight of foundation = 306.6 Tm

about toe, Ms

Factor of safety against overturning = Ms / Mo = 13.25 > 2.0

Hence Safe
6.0 CHECK FOR BASE PRESSURE:
Max. Moment at Bottom of Slab = 51.00 T.m

Eccentricity = 51.00 / 150.56

= 0.340 mm < 0.73 (B/6)

Actual bearing pressure at the base = (( 150.56 / ( 6.00 x 4.35 )) x ( 1 + 6 x

( 0.34 / 4.35 )))
Max. = 8.47 T/m² < 15.00 T/m²
Hence Safe

Actual bearing pressure at the base = (( 150.564 / ( 6.00 x 4.35 )) x ( 1 - 6 x

( 0.34 / 4.35 )))
Min. = 3.06 T/m² > 0.00 T/m²
Hence Safe
