ACTIVITY No. 03
INTRODUCTION:
Types of switches
SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) -This type of switch is a simple ON and OFF
switch. It is employed for breaking or connecting the circuit between two
terminals.
SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw)- These types of light switches have three
terminals. Of these three terminals, one of the terminals is employed as an input,
while the remaining two are employed as output terminals. One out of the two
terminals is joined to a common terminal.
DPST (Double Pole Single Throw)- This switch comprises two poles, meaning
two identical switches are included in it that lie side by side. A single toggle
operates this switch, meaning that the regulation of two discrete circuits is carried
out at the same time via a single push.
DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw)- This type of switch equals two SPDT
switches combinedly, meaning two separate circuits connect each circuit’s two
inputs to one of two outputs. The position of the switch regulates the number of
ways, and each contact can be routed from the two contacts.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Familiarize the materials used in installing Single Pole Single throw (SPST)
switch
2. Internalize the application of SPST switch
3. Install wiring methods using SPST switch
Note: all wires connected to a switches are “Hot” wires, no neutral wire or ground wires.
TOOLS NEEDED:
1. Rubber insulating gloves
2. Wire strippers
3. Insulated screwdrivers
4. Insulated pliers
5. Electrical tape
6. Cable cutters
7. Multitester
8. Safety knife
MATERIALS NEEDED:
1. SPST switch
2. Circuit Breaker
3. No.14 AWG (any types of wire) either solid or stranded wire
4. Junction Box
5. Utility Box
6. Receptacle
7. Nonmetallic Flexible Conduit
8. PVC connector
9. Incandescent Bulb
PROCEDURE;
1. Layout the locations of all boxes and fixtures
2. Install boxes and fittings
3. Install nonmetallic conduits
4. Draw and complete the connections of One line Diagram, Circuit or Schematic
Diagram and Wiring Diagram
5. Present your drawing to your instructor for initial checking
6. Revise your drawing (if drawing is wrong)
7. Install Electrical circuits based on your drawing.
8. Initiate rough inspection(connections, splicing and joints etc.)
9. Present your output to your instructor.
10. Turn off power supply and disassemble connection.
