STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Technology has aided us in making our society a better place to live since the beginning of time.
It has played a critical role in the growth of our society, from the invention of the wheel to the
modern computer. Computers and the Internet of Things are without a doubt the most impactful
in our lives. The IoT is primarily concerned with computers and devices using networks to "talk"
to one another, a process that is largely based on data exchange. As a result, the data is the fuel
that powers the Internet of Things, and data science algorithms transform it into something useful.
With the expanding number of individuals using the internet, there is a large volume of data that
must be reviewed and optimized. Data science takes data acquired through IoT devices and
technology and changes it into something that can provide value to an organization or business
through analysis and visualization, that the human brain cannot comprehend. This reality piqued
my interest and prompted me to pursue a master’s degree in Data Science.
My interest in computers and data began when I was a child as I used to observe my mother
working on computers and utilizing various programs such as MS-Excel and Oracle DB. I am
extremely fortunate to have a working mother who has worked as an Accountant in the software
sector for the past 18 years. My mother is my role model, and her challenging life has encouraged
me to always give my best, whether it's a tiny or large endeavor. Her support has always been there
for me, and the information I've gained from her previous and current work experiences has helped
me shine even brighter. I began learning to code from my seventh grade and leaped into the world
of Computer programming when I was just 12 years old.
As I grew older, my urge to understand more about computers and smart devices grew stronger.
And there has been no looking back since then as I decided to pursue a B. Tech in Electronics and
Communication Engineering (E.C.E) with specialization in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Sensor
at Vellore Institute of Technology after graduating from my high school. My academic experience
thus far has provided me with several skill sets and practical knowledge, which will be useful
studying overseas at the graduate level and pragmatically approaching any problem to solve in
real-time. From there it was a clear dive into the world of Maths, Physics, Applied Electronics,
IoT, Data Science, AI, Problem Solving, and Object-Oriented Programming. I learned so many
things during the course of these four years and most important among these was the understanding
of how diverse the field of data science and IoT are. As an undergraduate, I noticed enjoyed
programming as well as applying this skill to engineering. I was introduced to microcontroller and
processors programming which made me fascinated and intrigued.
I'm a dedicated and focused learner, which is something I've always attempted to show in my
academic credentials. I finished my secondary school education in 2015 with a meritorious 10
CGPA and earned my Intermediate certificate in 2017 with an impressive 97.9% total marks. My
trend of consistent and positive academic record continued in college as well, as I earned a
praiseworthy aggregate of 8.96 CGPA in my Bachelor’s.
My undergraduate college was not only a place to learn theoretically but also practically. I was
part of a large number of interactive, heuristic learning activities that helped me understand how
to connect theory with practice and grew as lead and mentor in the same clubs and chapters I was
part of. I worked on many academic and non-academic projects. To name a few, I developed a
personal android assistant for blind/visually impaired people named Nethra, which I published as
an opensource. It assists blind/visually impaired people to read books/signs, to know their
surroundings using the camera on their phone, and to communicate hands-free calling or mailing.
Similarly, I developed a COVID - 19 tracker app, which displays the statistics of COVID-19
country-wise and helped people during high times. As part of academic research projects, I also
worked on Chronic Kidney Disease Detection. In which developed an android app and a web app
to predict whether a person is suffering from a CKD using IBM Watson Machine Learning
Services. And a lead and mentor in clubs and chapters in VIT. I helped to build a prototype of
Real-Time Shrimp Pond Monitoring and Prediction of growth index to help the owner of the
shrimp farms. I enhanced my skills and learned new skills as per the requirement. During these, I
showcased my skills in python, Java, Android app development, and used many frameworks like
OpenCV, yolov3, Django, flask, Azure. I also regularly took part in various workshops, seminars,
and training programs.
Besides coursework, I also took many independent initiatives out of college to learn more about
my particular areas of interest. To do so I did multiple courses on topics such as Programming
Using Python, Machine Learning with Python, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, and Artificial
Intelligence. I also worked on several CS-related projects out of self-interest, to test and exercise
my learned skills and knowledge. I also volunteered in NSS and Child Empowerment Clubs at
VIT in which I taught English and Math to elderly people and children at night schools. Later on,
I also had the opportunity to learn imperative professional life skills and practice computing in
real-world business settings as I did an internship program as a Summer Intern at SmartBridge.
Here I had ample opportunities to learn, practice, and work across an exciting series of emerging
new tools, techniques, and technologies and draw on my learned skills to solve real-world business
issues. As a result, I worked on the Accident Detection and Alert System where I devised a
prototype to detect vehicle accident incidents accurately and save the lives of victims by providing
immediate rescue operations. It sends alert messages to nearby hospitals based on the site of the
crash despite the absence of internet services. Also includes an android app to monitor and alert
users.
I was offered a position as a System Engineer comprising roles of a Data Analyst and a Full-Stack
Developer at Tata Consulting Services where I was eventually granted full-time employment for
my successful and timely completion of the work assigned. I was exposed to a range of cutting-
edge technologies during that time, including technologies such as python, powerBI, SQL, Java,
Spring Boot, Angular, and many other frameworks which were used in the development of the
product. My project tasks gained me good experience of how to work as a software developer in
the team by following agile and scrum principles and also how to work on a particular story and
deliver on that particular sprint. I mainly learned how to understand stack holders' needs and work
on the story as per the requirements. Apart from this, I have undergone one more intern in TCS
before turning full time, which is related to extracting actionable insights from IoT data on Azure
and prediction using Azure Machine Learning. I was able to broaden my knowledge by applying
what I learned to real-world challenges and made great connections through my team of data
scientists and engineers both inside and outside of the organization.
Now that I'm done with my undergraduate studies and gained experience in different fields, I find
an MS in Data Science course to be the next logical step in my professional journey. Tech-domain

realization of my dreams. Besides broadening my overall sapience and career prospects, this course
will also bring me in tune with the present-day technological developments.
Since I am at this crucial phase of my career where an advanced study is an inevitable part in order
to forge my skills and become exceptional, I want to make sure that I pursue it from the best options
available. The master’s program offered by XXX University is the ideal option for me in my career
pursuit and it is one of the highly ranked institutions in this domain. The course offered here would
be a global learning experience and the international exposure that the program provides the
student is pivotal in understanding the nuances of the domain. I am positive that I will be able to
