Detailed Lesson Plan/Self-Instructional Packet (SIPack)

Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of suitable


vocabulary used in different languages for effective
communication and demonstrates understanding of text elements to see the
relationship between known and new
information to facilitate comprehension.

Performance Standard: The learners use familiar vocabulary to


independently express ideas in speaking activities and
correctly presents text elements through simple organizers
to make inferences, predictions and conclusions.
Competencies:

b. Ask and answer simple questions (who, what, where, when, why
and how about a text)

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:
a. Determine the meanings of words using context clues. (through
realia, pictures, body movements, context clues)

b. Ask and answer simple questions (who, what, where, when, why
and how about a text).

II. Content:
a. Topics
 Part of reading comprehension involves using the other words in a sentence or
passage to understand an unknown word.
 An author often includes hints, or clues, to help the reader expand vocabulary and
grasp the meaning of the passage.

✔ Using context clues enables a reader to comprehend advanced texts.

facilitate the discussion.

Betty’s grandmother has given her over one hundred different teddy bears.
Betty’s grandmother began giving her teddy bears when she was born. The teddy
bears are all on shelves inside Betty’s room. She enjoys staring at the teddy bears and
is very proud of them. She is eight years old now and hopes to have two hundred
teddy bears in her collection by the time she is sixteen years old.

The Little Sampaguita Girl

Once there was a little girl named Maya. She sold sampaguita for
a living along the streets of Manila. It was raining hard. She wore torn
and ragged clothes and had no slippers on her feet. Nobody bought her
sampaguita.

She was scared to go home because she knew her father would
scold her for not having sold anything. She asked for food from the
people passing by but nobody gave her. Suddenly, she felt so warm. She
opened her eyes and saw her mother hugging her. Then, together they
went up to heaven.

Maya lay frozen to death with a smile on her lips. No one ever
knew the wonderful dreams she had the previous night.

chairs are everywhere. Tim and Kim started to hear the sounds of the rides.
