04 Task Performance 1 - ARG

The document discusses calculating total data transfer amount and throughput given file size, overhead, and data loss. It also calculates propagation time and transmission time for a message given bandwidth, message size, distance, and speed of light. Finally, it addresses calculating data elements per signal element and number of signal elements given bit rate and baud rate.

There is a data that has a file size of 26Mb with an ethernet overhead of 8

Mb. Find the Total amount of data to be transferred and throughput if there
is an amount of data loss of 15 Mbps due to errors and acknowledgments. (2
items x 5 points)

Given:

BW = 26+8(mb)

Data Loss = 15 Mbps

Formula: T = BW-Data Loss

Solution:

BW = 26 + 8

BW = 34 Mb

T = 34Mb – 15Mbps

T = 19Mbps

Assume that the distance between the sender and the receiver is 5000 km and
that light travels at 1.7 x 108 m/s. What is the propagation time and the
transmission time for a 1.44 MB message if the bandwidth of the network is 3
Mbps? (2 items x 5 points)

Given:

BW = 3Mbps

Message = 1.44Mb

Distance = 5000km

Speed of Light = 1.7 x 108 m/s

An analog signal has a bit rate of 36000 bps and a baud rate of 1200 baud. How many data elements are
carried by each signal element? How many signal elements do we need? (2 items x 5 points)

Given:

Bit rate = 36,000 bps Baud

Rate = 1200 baud
