Summary of Competency Rule:

A Laboratory Science course is defined as a course in which at least 1 class period each week is devoted to providing
anopportunity for students to manipulate equipment, materials, or specimens, to develop skills in observation and
analysis, and to
discover, demonstrate, illustrate, or test scientific principles or concepts, such as chemistry, physics, earth sciences and
biology.
By completing at least 1 credit in each of 3 different laboratory sciences selected from the following: chemistry,
physics, earth science, or biology. A laboratory-based integrated science
course may be allowed to substitute for 1 of the 3 required courses. It is strongly recommended that students take 3
years of different laboratory science subjects before taking an advanced/honors course in the same subject.

-AP/IB/Dual Enrollment Sciences – Can always be accepted as advanced science
*All lab sciences must include physical lab work. Any sciences taken online must have submitted through Course

The language ab initio course is a language acquisition course for students with
little or no experience of the language. There are 12 languages offered at this
level.

Language B Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) are language acquisition
courses for students with some previous experience of learning the language.
There are 23 languages offered at this level.

There are two languages offered, Greek and Latin.

The language A: literature course introduces students to the analysis of literary

texts. It is the course through which the IB’s policy of mother-tongue
entitlement is delivered. The course is automatically available in 55 languages
and available by special request and may be studied in any language with a
sufficiently developed written literature.

The language A: language and literature course introduces the critical study
