O Level Physics Magnetism

1. Magnetism is caused by the spin of charges or movement of charges within materials. 2. Magnets have poles - north and south - and opposite poles attract while like poles repel with a force that depends on the strength and distance between magnets. 3. Materials are classified as magnetic (iron, steel, nickel, cobalt) or non-magnetic (aluminum, copper, silver) depending on whether their domains of magnetization are aligned or randomized. Soft magnetic materials are easily magnetized while hard magnetic materials strongly retain magnetism.
