Discrete Mathematics is a branch of
mathematics involving discrete elements that
uses algebra and arithmetic. It is increasingly
being applied in the practical fields of
mathematics and computer science. It is a very
good tool for improving reasoning and problem-
solving capabilities. This tutorial explains the
fundamental concepts of Sets, Relations and
Functions, Mathematical Logic, Group theory,
Counting Theory, Probability, Mathematical
Induction and Recurrence Relations, Graph
Theory, Trees and Boolean Algebra.

SET THEORY
SETS

As we know that a set is a collection of elements. We use a

notation of curly braces, in which all the members of the Set
are listed.
Traditionally, sets are described by capital letters and
elements by lower case letters.

Examples
Equal Sets
Example # 01
Let E = {x | x2 - 3x + 2 = 0},
F = {2, 1} and
G = {1, 2, 2, 1}.

Then discuss and prove that:

E = F = G.
