Situation: For No. 1 to 12

Determine the length of the curve required to
connect the bridge and tunnel while keeping the connecting grade as small as
possible. A highway has a design speed of 90.00 KPH but an engineering mistake
has resulted in the need to connect an already constructed tunnel and bridge with
sag and crest vertical curves the profile view of the tunnel and bridge is given.
Devise a vertical alignment to connect the tunnel and bridge by determining the
highest possible common design speed (for desirable SSD) for the sag and crest
(equal tangent) vertical curves needed. Compute the stationing and elevations of
PVC, PVI and PVT curve points.

PVIc PVTc Elevation 216.00 m
PVCs
PVCc

1) The quadratic equation aA2+bA + c =0

2) Determine the value of A
3) Determine the length of sag curve in meters.?
4) Determine the length of constant-grade-section in meters.?
5) Determine the stationing of PVCc
6) Determine the length of crest curve in meters.?
7) Determine the stationing at PVIs?
8) Determine the stationing at PVTs?
9) Determine the end-of-curve offset for crest curve?
10) Determine the end-of-curve offset for sag curve?

12) Determine the elevation of the PVCc?
Situation: For No. 13 to 19
An equal-tangent curve is to be constructed between grades of -2.50% initial and 3.50% final. The PVI is at Station
4+311.000 and elevation 411 m. Due to a street crossing the elevation of the roadway at station 4+384.000 is equat to
414 m.Determine the following: 13) The quadratic equation aL2+bL + c =0
14) The two values of Length of the curve
15) The governing L
16) Stationing of the PVC
17) Elevation of the PVT
