I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students can;
a. Determine and define figurative language and figures of speech,
b. Familiarize the types of figures of speech,
c. Apply the use of figure of speech through creation of poem.
III. Procedure
a. Preparatory
• Prayer
• Greetings to the class
• Checking attendance
• Review of the past lesson (the teacher will call student/s to
recap the past lesson.
b. Motivation
(The teacher will play a video presentation of the poem “Ang mga
Kagila-gilalas na Pakikipagsapalaran ni Juan de la Cruz”, and allow
students to answer the following questions provided by the teacher.)
1. What have you notice in the poem?
2. Who among you here do travel alone?
3. Can you describe your experience in a creative way?
c. Presentation/Discussion
(The teacher will discuss the Figurative language and types of figures
of speech and provide examples.)
The line to identify from the poem “Ang mga Kagila-gilalas na
Pakikipagsapalaran ni Juan de la Cruz”.
• Pusturang-pustura kahit walang laman ang bulsa.
• BAWAL PUMARADA sabi ng kalsada.
• BAWAL UMIHI DITO sabi ng bakod.
• MAG-INGAT SA ASO.
• nahulog sa pusali parang espadang bali-bali.
• Humikab ang dagat na parang leon.
• BAWAL MAGTAPON NG BASURA sabi ng alon.
d. Activity
1. The teacher will ask the students to bring out their individual copy
of the poem “Ang mga Kagila-gilalas na Pakikipagsapalaran ni Juan
de la Cruz”, and determine the line that they think a figurative
language.
e. Analysis
1. What types of figures of speech do you think used in each line from
the poem?
2. The teacher will let the students identify the types of figures of
speech used in each line of the poem“Ang mga Kagila-gilalas na
Pakikipagsapalaran ni Juan de la Cruz”.

➢ When we say Figurative language, it refers to language that
contains figures of speech, it is any language that isn’t
intended to be taken literally.
➢ Talking about figures of speech is a rhetorical device that
achieves a special effect by using words in distinctive ways.
➢ A figure of speech is a use of a word that diverges from its
normal meaning, or a phrase with a specialized meaning not
based on the literal meaning of the words in it such as a
metaphor, simile, or personification.
➢ Figures of speech often provide emphasis, freshness of
expression, or clarity.
➢ The types of figures of speech are simile, metaphor,
personification, apostrophe, oxymoron, hyperbole, pun,
alteration, onomatopoeia, anaphora, assonance, euphemism,
irony, synecdoche, and understatement.
