What Is The Internet Protocol?

IP stands for internet protocol. It is a protocol defined in the TCP/IP model used for sending packets from source to destination. The main task of IP is to deliver the packets from the source to the destination based on the IP addresses available in the packet headers. IP defines the packet structure that hides the data which is to be delivered as well as the addressing method that labels the datagram with source and destination information.

IP Internet Protocol

What is Internet Protocol ﴾IP﴿?

IP or Internet Protocol is a set of rules, for routing and addressing packets of data so that they
can travel across networks and arrive at the correct destination. The Internet's data is divided
into small chunks called packets. The information of the IP is then attached to each packet thus

helping the router to send packets to the right place. At least one IP address is assigned toIndex
every device or domain that connects to the Internet and as packets are directed to the IP
address attached to them, data reaches when it is needed.

IPv4 or Internet Protocol Version 4 was the first major version of IP which is also the dominant
protocol of the Internet. Internet Protocol Version 6 ﴾IPv6﴿ is its successor which has been in
increasing deployment on the public Internet since 2006.

Today, Internet Protocol Version 4 is the most widely used version of IP. That being said, IPv6 is
also beginning to be supported.

How do I find my IP address?

Since you're reading this on a device that's connected to a network, you might be curious
about what your IP address is. There are many websites that can tell you, like
whatismyipaddress.com. But if your device is connected to a local network, like most people's,
these sites will give you the IP address of your router that is visible to the public. Your device's
network settings are where you'll find your private IP address on your local network.

How do IP addresses work?

An IP address is a unique string of numbers that identifies a device on the internet. It's like a
street address for your computer or smartphone.

IP addresses are used to route data around the internet, and they're also used to identify
individual computers and other devices so that data can be sent to them.

IP addresses are usually written as four sets of numbers separated by periods, like
123.123.123.123, but they can also be written in hexadecimal or binary notation.

What are thet ypes of Internet Protocols?

The World Wide Web ﴾WWW﴿ is what most people are referring to when they talk about the
internet. The internet is composed of various types of components.

TCP(Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol):‐ Providing a reliable stream

delivery and virtual connection service to applications through the use of sequenced
acknowledgement, TCP is a transport layer protocol.
SMTP﴾Simple Mail Transfer Protocol﴿:‐ The SMTP sends e‐mail messages originating on
a local host over a TCP connection to a remote server.
PPP﴾Point to Point Protocol﴿:‐ PPP is a communication protocol used to create a direct

connection between two communicating devices.
FTP﴾File Transfer Protocol﴿:‐ File sharing between hosts is enabled by the FTP, both local
and remote, and it runs on top of TCP.
SFTP﴾Secure File Transfer Protocol﴿:‐ SFTP is a secure file transfer protocol that runs over
the SSH protocol. The full security and authentication functionality of SSH is supported by
it.
HTTP﴾HyperText Transfer Protocol﴿:‐ To allow web pages to be shown in a web browser,
HTTP is used. You will find the prefix “http://” in front of the address bar.
HTTPS﴾HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure﴿:‐ This is HTTP's extension that is used for
secure communication over a computer network with the SSL/TLS protocol for encryption
and authentication.

1﴿. What are the 4 types of IP address?

The 4 types of IP address are:

1. Public IP address
2. Private IP address
3. Dynamic IP address
4. Shared IP address

2﴿. Is IP a computer or internet?

IP stands for Internet Protocol, which is the system that is used to send and receive data
packets over the internet.

It can be defined as a protocol suite and set of networking standards.

The IP suite provides connectionless datagram transmission, addressing, name resolution,

fragmentation and reassembly, sequencing and other features that are necessary to build an
internetwork.

The IP protocol suite offers a basic set of communications protocols for creating

interconnected networks.

3﴿. Why is IP used?

IP is used to protect inventions and creations. It is not just limited to patents. It includes
trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights.

IP laws are used to prevent the theft of intellectual property and to ensure that the creator of
the work or invention is given credit for their work.

4﴿. Can someone find my IP address?

The IP address is a unique identifier for the device that you are using to access the internet. It
can be used to find your location and even your identity.

An IP address is a sequence of numbers that identifies every device on the internet. It can be
used to find your location and even your identity.

The IP address is an important part of how data packets are routed across the Internet, so it's
not something you want people to know about you.

In order for someone to find out your IP address, they will have to know what kind of computer
or device you're using, what type of software you're running, and where in the world you are
located.

5﴿. Who controls public IP?

If you are not a lawyer, this section might seem a little too complicated. But if you are, then it
should be easy to understand what is going on.

The debate over who has the right to control public IP is a long‐standing one. The two major
factions in this debate are the State and private entities.

The State believes that they have the right to control public IP because they believe that they
have created it and should thus be able to decide what happens with it. Private entities believe
that they have the right to control public IP because if there is no private entity controlling

public IP, then there will be nobody making profit from their work and investments.
