I would like to express my warmest gratitude to all those who patiently helped me
in making my On-The-Job training (OJT) both possible and successful.
First of all, to our Almighty God for His unbounded love and blessings He has
showered upon me. With all my unfeigned heart and soul, I thank Him for His guidance,
provisions and wisdom he bestowed upon me and for keeping me and my love ones safe.
By His grace I was able to finished my OJT.
3
To the institution where I’m studying, University of Cagayan Valley, where I
was molded to become who I am today.
To our handsome OJT Coordinator, dean and adviser, Engr. Ronie Reyes for
always guiding and helping us in our training.
To the CARSUMCO family, thank you for your warm welcome and giving us
this kind of experience in your establishment. For the chance that you’ve given us to be
with your team as part. It was a great experience to be with you all, for giving us more
knowledge in this on the job training. And most especially for helping us to hone our
knowledge and skills as we continue to strive our goals and ambitions in our life.

INTRODUCTION
On-the-job training is a compulsory on most schools in the world, It is a
way by which student may enhance their knowledge and skills and a chance to
apply the theories and computations that they have learned from the school. It also
helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual
work setting/ in a real training ground. Colleges and universities require their
students to undergo such training within specific number of hours as part of the
curriculum. For the students, OJT’s provides opportunities to go through the actual
method, rules or the procedures of a specific job using real tools, equipment’s and
documents. It is also a way to let students to be ready on the real world of work,
exposing them on the possibilities and letting them experience how it feels when
working. In effect, the workplace becomes a development venue for a student
trainee to learn more about his/her chosen field.
It is a part of college curriculum aims to train and orient student about work
and future career. It is a type of skills development were a worker know how to do
works through hands on experience. The student will expose to the actual works
related to the course that they are taking. It also allows those who have no
experience to work and to learn at the same time. It helps to build up the trainee’s
competence.
On the other hand, an effective OJT program also benefits the companies
who accept trainees, First OJT or intern provides additional manpower for a lesser
labor cost than a regular employee. Most of them are all eager to learn the ropes so
chances are high that they will cooperate.
5
OJT’s can bring fresh ideas into the organization. Given the opportunity to
speak their minds freely and without fear, they may be able to contribute
significantly in brainstorming sessions or research and eventually help improve the
organizations productivity While training the interns employers are in fact also
teaching their employees to process of guiding the trainees stretches their patience,
develops teaching skills and makes them more sensitive to the needs and mind set
of the younger generation. The course of supervision also teaches them how to
share what they know and be receptive to questions. Hence, the internship also
becomes an avenue in training for future managers of the company.
Most importantly, On the Job Training is a big thing for the students. It is
where they can really realize if they are really fit on their course, and if they really
want that certain chosen field of career. It is also an outlet to build oneself. You can
gain more self-confidence and self-esteem. More than the learning you can acquire
the discipline and values you can get from the people you work with and
experiences that would teach you essential things.

PART II
SCHOOL PROFILE
UCV HISTORY
The University of Cagayan Valley (UCV), formerly known as the Cagayan Colleges
Tuguegarao (CCT) and Cagayan Teachers College (CTC), was founded in April 1948, from the
rubbles and devastating aftermath of World War II. The country was still in economic chaos;
most schools have been destroyed or burned and were being built and rehabilitated. There was a
dearth of teachers all over the country and people were just getting over their travails and
horrifying experiences during the war.
Tuguegarao was not spared by the war. The Japanese forces were everywhere. In fact,
the Japanese Army had a large contingent quartered in the Old Selecta, a Ladies Dormitory
owned and operated by the late Mrs. Caridad S. Ventura-Perez, located at the site now occupied
by Dr. Matias Ponce Perez, Sr. Building. As a result of the bombings of American forces to
10
destroy enemy installations, the Old Selecta as well as the whole “Centro” of Tuguegarao was
reduced to ashes and only few buildings were left standing.
It was during the long war years while on evacuation that Atty. Matias Ponce Perez Sr.
concretized his life-long dream and promise to the Cagayan electorate in the early 30’s of
founding a school which can offer affordable higher education. At that time, there were no
institutions of higher learning in Tuguegarao nor in nearby areas, that one had to go to Manila to
obtain a college education.
Atty. Perez had a great foresight. He had foreseen that after the war, there would be a
great need for more schools, for better trained and more qualified teachers. During that period,
even teachers in the public school needed to grow professionally as many of them were just high
school or secondary normal college graduates. Thus, in April 1948, with the help of his friends,
relative and some public school officials, and with the inspiration and guidance of his wife, Mrs.
Caridad S. Ventura-Perez, the Cagayan Teachers College, now University of Cagayan Valley
was born.
The University of Cagayan Valley started modestly. Its course offering during its first
year of academic operation was limited to Elementary Teacher’s Certificate. Soon after, other
courses were offered.
Because it was felt that the old name of the Institution “Cagayan Teachers College” was
already a misnomer, considering the fact that the Institution had begun to offer courses other than
teaching, the Board of Trustees in 1983 amended Article II of the original Articles of
Incorporation to change the Institution’s name to Cagayan Colleges Tuguegarao.
At present, hand in hand with the Institution’s academic expansion, its physical facilities
and structures are also being improved and expanded. To accommodate the growing number of
enrollees, the Institution maintains two campuses; the College Avenue Campus (UCV Annex)
where the Dr. Matias P. Perez Building is located, and the Balzain Campus which is now the
Main Campus with an area of some eight hectares where the other buildings of the institution are
located.
The Dr. Matias P. Perez Building, complete with science laboratories and a simulated
hospital, quarters the College of Health while the various buildings at the Main Campus
11
(Balzain) house the College of Law, College of Marine Engineering, College of Marine
Transportation, College of Computer Engineering and Information Technology, College of
Technology, College of Engineering, College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, School of
Arts and Sciences and Teacher Education, School of Criminology and the School of Business
Administration. It is also in the Balzain Campus where the Computer Laboratories,
Swimming Pool, Hotel, Mock Ship, Crime Laboratory, Chemistry Laboratory, Crime
Laboratory, Dark Room for Photography, Interrogation Room and the Gymnasium are housed.
Further, the Institution was designated by the Technical Education and Skills
Development Authority (TESDA) as the Assessment Center for Computer Hardware Servicing
National Certificate (NC) II and the venue for Skills Assessment in Housekeeping NCII and
Automotive Servicing NCII.
In response to the demand of its stakeholders and the medical field, the Institution opened
the College of Health with two programs; namely, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Diploma
in Midwifery in 2004.
The Institution has the following curricular offerings: two (2) Doctorate Degrees, four
(4) Master’s Degrees, eighteen (18) Baccalaureate Degrees, one (1) Post Baccalaureate Degree,
five (5) Pre-Baccalaureate Degrees, three (3) Post Secondary Technical Courses, Complete
Secondary Level and Complete Elementary Level. The University of Cagayan Valley also offers
12
three (3) Ladderized Education Programs, three (3) Technical Vocational Education and Training
(TVET) Programs, and three (3) Terminal Programs. All in all, UCV has twenty-five (25)
Recognized Programs and seven (7) Registered Certificate Programs.
The good results of the series of accreditations conducted by PACUCOA and DNV along
Research, Extension and Instruction prompted and inspired the Board of Directors and the
School Officials to submit the Institution for university status evaluation.
Hence, in 2008, requirements for this purpose were submitted to the Commission on
Higher Education (CHED) Central Office through the Regional Office. The first team from
CHED Central Office who came to pre-assess the institution was impressed. On July 8-10,
CHED Commissioners came to validate the report of the earlier team. They, too, felt that CCT
deserved the university status.
The honorable commissioners recommended the granting of the university status to the
Commission en banc who awarded the status to CCT through Resolution No. 186-2010 dated
July 14, 2010 which changed the name Cagayan Colleges Tuguegarao to University of Cagayan
Valley.
On July 19, 2010, the First University Assembly attended by students, faculty,
administration, personnel, alumni, CHED officials, religious groups and friends of UCV was
held to inform the stakeholders of the university status of the Institution.
On September 15, 2010, Dr. Victor V. Perez, in an investiture program, was installed as
the First University President.

would rent a stall, lay out the goods from the bike, and make about 20 pesos a day, enough for
me to survive and to buy even more goods for next time. Those days, you might call my

HISTORY OF URC CARSUMCO
17
The Cagayan Robina Sugar Milling Company (CARSUMCO), a sugar division of
Universal Robina Corporation (URC), an ISO 9001:2015 certified company, is a raw sugar mill
and refinery plant with main office at SAuite 2201, Robinsons Equitable Tower, No.1 ADB
Avenue corner Poveda Street, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The plant site is suited at Sto.
Domingo, Piat, Cagayan about 32 kilometers away from Tuguegarao City along the Tuguegarao-
Piat National Highway and only 7 kilometers away from the famous and miraculous Basilica
Minore de Nuestra Sra de Piat (Our Lady of Piat). This is more or less 530 kilometers north of
Manila.
The raw sugar mill and the integrated refinery were constructed in 1976. The plant was
originally owned by a group of retired military officers headed by the late Gen. Eulogio Balao. It
was originally named as Cagayan Sugar Corporation (CASUCO). The plant was acquired at
onset of crop year 1990-1991 by Robina Corporation.
The refinery plant was integrated with the raw sugar mill and was integrated with the raw
sugar mill and was designed to operate under the Carbonation Process of sugar refining. It has a
melting capacity of 250 MT per day with an equivalent production of 4,300 bags refined sugar
per day at 50 kg/bag. Most of the time, thed refinery operates simultaneously with the raw sugar
mill in order to reduce operating expenses by taking advantage of the common/dual utilization of
steam and electric power generated by the existing raw sugar mill steam and power plant.\
The principal finished goods produced are raw and refined sugar. Most of the raw sugar
produced is directly processed as refined sugar and the remaining raw sugar is stored in the sugar
warehouse in bulk or 50 kg/bag. The final molasses, a by-product in the sugar manufacturing
process, is stored in the molasses tank at the plant site.
The sugarcane milled is owned and delivered to the mill by the sugarcane planters. Sugar
and molasses manufactured from the sugar cane is shared by the Mill and the Planter in
accordance with a pre-stablished sharing scheme. The ra sugar mill has a milling capacity of
4,000 tons cane per day using the conventional type mill tandem.

We was designated inside the factory of Cagayan Robina Sugar Milling Corporation
(CARSUMCO), our group was divided into four. In which two groups will be deployed in every
department, the Mill & Boiler and Maintenance & Motorpol department.
My group and the other group was assigned at Mill and Boiler department. I and my
team stay at the Mill station, the other one was at boiler station. The two remaining group was
deployed at Maintenance station and Motorpol station.
Mill station, this station where the cane juice will produce and the squeeze stem of cane
or what they called bagasse will carried with the bagasse elevator going to the boiler station and
use as fuel in the boiler. This is the step on how they extracted the juice of the cane. The cane
was damped in the damping area and was delivered by a conveyor in to the equalizer and was
transfer in another carrier going to the first leveler. After it was leveled, it was chopped by the
first cane cutter in which it has 30 blades, and the cane was chopped again with the second cane
cutter with 54 blades and was leveled again with the second leveler.
The copped cane was delivered in the kicker or hammer with the second cane carrier, in
which the cane will be hammered, and after that It was lift or transfer in to the crusher in which
the cane crushed or squeezed, where in the first or the pure juice was extracted. The first juice or
the pure one will be test in the min lab under the crusher by the quality assurance department,
they will see if how many tons of sugar will produce.
The process was not yet done , the crushed cane from the crusher was squeezed or milled
with four mill rollers to remove all juice from the cane. And after that, the squeezed cane or they
call now bagasse where in no juice from it, they used as the fuel in boiling water in the boiler
station, and it was deliver by an bagasse elevator.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
28
1st day of OJT, we entered CARSUMCO and we went to the office for orientation for the
background of the company and I found out the owner of the company and his other company
and then I found out that the former owner had died so the one who handles the businesses is his
son, after the background of the company was narrated, the policy and safety of the company
were narrated, when the orientation ended we were told to eat first and return by 1pm.
When returned to CARSUMCO we were told that we would be admitted to the plant so that they
could take us on a tour of the departments and they grouped us into four to be assigned to the
departments. And I was the one who was told to be the leader of my group and that we were
assigned to the boiler, and the other groups were that they were assigned to MILLING,
MOTORPOOL and MIANTENACE.
My group entered the boiler because that is where we are destined, and we meet the supervisor
and other boiler workers in the first time we introduce my name and a visor came to us and said
that he would give us a tour of the conveyors and he explained to us how the operation of each
conveyors and after he finished giving us a tour of the conveyors we went to the control panel to
see how the operation of the boiler is and how it works.
29
2nd day of OJT, we entered the CARSUMCO in 8am and my group entered the boiler because
that is where we are destined, On the 2nd day, we studied the control panel because the milling
was ongoing, so the visor told us to study it, then little by little we learned how the operation
works and that's when I learned that the important thing to look at in the control is the water and
temperature, if the water runs out or the supply of water to the boiler is lost, the boiler will burn
because there is no water to cook it into steam.
30
3rd day of OJT, the visor took us on a tour of the deaerator and explained how it works, we found
out that this is where the water first passes to the boiler, if it has passed through the Deaerator,
the water going to the boiler is already hot, and after he finished taking us around the deaerator,
he gave us something to do, what he gave us was to measure the length and diameter of pipes
and valves leading to the deaerator.
4th day of OJT, day 4 the milling is still ongoing and we stand by the control panel to watch if
there is a malfunction, and it didn't take long for the bagasse feeder number 5 to malfunction
31
because the bagasse was in stock so the visor told us that we will remove the stock to work again
the feeder, so the three of us went to remove it and we removed it, we went to the control panel
again, then it was time for us to eat lunch.
At 1pm we went to the control panel to wait for the visor's order so soon the visor told us that we
will remove the fallen bagasse surrounding of ash conveyor until 5pm came we were sent home
but the visor was asked if we could work overtime so the visor is fine but I worked overtime
alone because my two OJT companions went home so I worked overtime alone, I asked the visor
what to do and he told me to sit in the control panel and study again, then Some time passed and
I went home around 10pm at night.
5th day of OJT, It's a week, but it's my day off because the milling is still ongoing, but I still go in
even though it's a week, so I go in alone because my friends went home, so I'm alone, when I
was in the boiler, I went to the control panel and I sat there and was tested The visor holds the
32
control panel, so I learned a lot from the control panel, for example you should always watch the
water so the boiler doesn't get damaged, secondly you should also watch the temperature so it
doesn't exceed the temperature limit so it doesn't explode, and that's what I learned on day 5. I
went overtime to learn more about the control pane and I went home at about 10pm.
6th day of OJT, the milling is still ongoing but the visors are not being made, so we were
observing the boiler and we also made the visor, what he made us do was to remove basses from
the ash conveyor, we will remove the ones that fall into the boiler, and it didn't take long. We
rested after we rested we were told to continue measuring the pipes and valve leading to
deaerator first.
33
7th day of OJT, the milling is still ongoing, but only boiler 2 is being operated because the mill is
still being milled, so boiler 3 is disabled, so what we have been asked to do is to assist the
workers to open secondary manholes in boiler 3,
34
8th day of OJT, the milling is still ongoing but only boiler 2 is working so we are still observing
OJT so we are at the control panel and we were told that we will remove the stock ashes in the
secondary manholes that we opened on day 7 so on day 8 we removed the Ashes are in stock, we
will remove them in one day.
35
9th to 11th day of OJT, the milling was done so we didn't do much so we were ordered to remove
bagasse in RBE (Return bagasse elevator) so we did it for three days.
36
The RBE is the conveyor that returns from the bagasse warehouse and goes to the feeder,
because it is the one that will supply the boiler that will be burned to make a fire to cook the
water that will become steam, after it becomes steam it will first go to the steam drum before
going to the steam receiver.
12th to 13th day of OJT, because the milling is done so the cleaning and repair of the boiler will
start so we started cleaning the economizer, so we removed ashes inside the economizer in boiler
3 and boiler 2.
37
The economizer this is installed into the exhaust stream of the boiler. Exhaust waste heat is
recovered by industrial finned tube that lines the inside of the economizer. The heat is transferred
to the desired heat sink as it flows through the tubing: boiler feed water, makeup water, process
water and etc.
14th to 15th day of OJT, after we cleaned the economizer in boiler 3 and boiler 2, so in the HBC
(Horizontal Bagasse Conveyor) we will remove the left bagasse along the HBC, we cleaned it for
two days because there were too many left or fallen bagasse, the HBC is the conveyor that will
deliver bagasse to another conveyor to go to the warehouse.
16th to 17th day of OJT, when we finished cleaning at HBC we went to the bagasse warehouse to
clean the surrounding in the back feed belt conveyor, we need to clean it because to see the
broken back feed belt or to look clean.
38
The back feed belt is the one that will return the bagasse to supply if there is a shortage of
bagasse going to the mill and boiler.
18th to 21st day of OJT, we spent four days cleaning the bottom of RBE and HBC, because there
was a lot of bagasse that fell, so it took us a long time to clean it, but when we got there, we were
going to start repairing or checking, but I was separated from my companions because I went to
the boiler proper and we got them to the conveyor proper.
39
22nd day of OJT, I first assisted in removing the back feed belt because if they were to be
removed, I assisted as we were removing the back feed belt, we had a hard time removing the
bolt, so we took gas and oxygen to cut the bolt because it was not possible to remove it with
tools the bolts so we used gas and oxygen to cut.
40
23rd to 24th day of OJT, day 23 is when I moved to boiler proper and left my two colleagues
behind in conveyor proper, there are groups because those who work, these groups are boiler,
conveyor, ducting so I moved to boiler, and the first one I was assigned to do was asked to
remove the dumping grate inside the boiler, I asked why it would be removed and I was told that
the dumping grate should be checked if there are any damages so that the inside of the boiler can
41
be repaired and cleaned. I also asked what the dumping grate was for, and he told me it was to
control the dumping of ashes.
25th day of OJT, when I entered the boiler, the visor told me that I should not assist first, they
said that I should first fix the drain of the steam receiver, so I went to the steam receiver to assist,
and what we did was we removed the pipes that were broken or thin enough to be replaced, but
first we removed the valves to clean and fix them, and when the valve was cleaned and fixed, we
put it back and put a small drum there to collect the water, and told me that I was going to
welding was for me to learn, so I liked it and I started welding but at first I had a hard time
42
because it was my first time to weld so I always made mistakes but after a while my welding was
ok because I was learning little by little.
26th to 28th day of OJT, I assisted the refractory in boiler 3 for three days.
43
29th to 36th day of OJT, I assisted in the repair of the drain in steam receiver for 8 days and we
replaced the exhaust of the draining steam receiver.
44
37th to 38th day of OJT, I assisted to repair the boiler 2 of the dumping grate and cleaned the
inside of the boiler, and this is my last day of OJT in the Carsumco.
45
46
PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED
I encountered that the problems at the Mill department, were the Bagasse Conveyor plate
at the dumping site, leveler 1 and 2 cane cutter 1 and 2, and bagasse kicker, some plate was thin,
had a small hole, and the bolts used to hold the plate was loose thread. The Shredder turbine 1 to
4 was unclean due to dust and grease. The big rollers, horizontal conveyor and side cup were
also filthy because of the small particles of bagasse inserted inside the rollers, cutters, conveyors
and other part of machines. Some parts of cutter and roller was ruined.
RECOMMENDATION
The solutions that had made in bagasse conveyor plate at the dumping site, leveler 1
and 2 cane cutter 1 and 2, and bagasse kicker, were conditioning, cleaning and replacing of
plates and bolts. Conditioning, cleaning and washing of Shredder turbine 1 to 4 using soap
powder mixed with water. Removing of bagasse particles of rollers, horizontal conveyor, side
cap using small flat shovel and lathe machine. Welding the parts of cutter and rolled that have
been ruined.
47
