EPISODE 5: THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM

Name: Domingo, Sherwin Y. Yr. Level/Section: BBED 4D Date: 01/20/22

Name of Cooperating Teacher: Mrs. Gemma T. Parungao Subject: FS 413a

I. Objectives:
A. Identify the different curricula that prevail in the school setting
B. Analyze if the teacher aligns the objectives to subject matter, to teaching strategies and
assessment.
II. Steps:
A. Discover what curriculum is operating the school setting.
B. Observe and analyze how the resource teacher plan and assess the lesson.
C. Reflect why curriculum components alignment is important.

III. Learning Activities:

A. Observe
Locate where you can find the following curriculum. Make observations of the process
and record the information in the matrix below. Describe your observations.

4. Supported Curriculum

5. Assessed Curriculum

6. Learned Curriculum

7. Hidden Curriculum
B. Analyze

Observe and record observation on the following aspects: PLANNING,

IMPLEMENTING, and EVALUATING/ASSESSING. Was the lesson implemented as
planned? Described.
Yes, the lesson implemented as my cooperating teacher plan. For example, when she
asking me to prepared her materials, I analyze it and understand. When the time she used the
materials that I’ve made, I saw and analyze everything has happens and it show the lesson was
planned, implement, evaluate and execute well.

Indicate the learning objectives set for the lesson, were they all attained? How did
the teacher assess/evaluate the learning objectives?
The learning objective that being set was attained in teaching. As I noticed to my
cooperating teacher when she assessing and evaluating the children is she’s using different type
of strategies on assessing the pupils. For example, google forms and modules.

Can you describe the majority of students’ reaction after the lesson was taught?
Confused? Happy and Eager? Contented? No reactions at all?
About the student’s reaction after learning the lesson was taught is that the pupils are
happy on the new learning they get and eager to come up another tomorrow to have another
lesson to learn. They enjoying every lesson we had, especially in teaching they are motivated in
answering questions and giving lots of ideas and another learning.

C. Reflection
Based on your observations and tasks how will you prepare your lesson plan? Make a
short paragraph on the topic.

Since we are on the pandemic “teaching and learning process” or maybe

we can call it as online learning. Preparing lesson plan is not normal as we
do before, it needs much attention on how the lesson will be taught and
deliver to the children in virtual set-up. It needs to connect in environment
now adays for example pandemic. Lesson plans need a connection to the
surroundings.
What value will it give to the teacher if the three components are aligned?
Accomplishment, correction and guide can help not only the teacher also the
learners. If this component aligned it will totally develop the teacher and learner. On this field whe are not
just focusing on one aspect. It needs a connection to teacher and learners.

Name: Domingo, Sherwin Y. Yr. Level/Section: BBED 4D Date: 01/20/22

Name of Cooperating Teacher: Mrs. Gemma T. Parungao Subject: FS 413a

I. Objectives:
a. Determine the guiding principles on lesson objectives/learning outcomes applied in
instruction.
b. Judge if lesson objectives/intended learning outcomes are SMART
c. Determine whether or not lesson development was in accordance with learning
objectives.
II. Steps:
a. Observe your resource teacher methods and strategies in developing learning
opportunities to achieve learning objectives.
b. Analyze the importance of learning activities provided in teaching-learning process.
c. Reflect on the teaching method you observed.
III. Learning Activities:
A. Observe
Observe a class, this time focusing on how the learning outcomes were stated. Determine if
the learning outcome/s was/were achieved or not. Give evidence.
1. Write the learning outcomes stated in the lesson.

(SMART Objectives?) Achieved

Learning Outcomes
Yes No Yes No

1.  ✔

2.

3.

4.

5.

3. Did the Teacher state the learning objectives/intended learning outcomes (ILOs) at the
beginning of the class? Did he/she share them with the class? How?
Before the discussion begins, the learning objectives dictated to the learners to know
what objectives they are going to learn through PowerPoint, in front of the pages. So that it’s
a yes.

4. What teaching-learning activities (TLAs) did he/she use? Did these TLAs help him/her
attain his/her lesson objectives/ ILOs? Explain your answer.
Based on what I’ve observe more on teaching-learning activities that happens are
psychomotor activities, for example dancing, building confidence, drawing etc. that helps to
attain the learning objectives.

5. What assessment task/s did teacher employ? Is/Are these aligned to the lesson objectives/
ILOs?

In preparing assessment it should/must aligned to the lessons learning objectives.

In assessment more on writing skills and evaluation. But sometimes we do have
kinesthetic assessments for example in p.e subject.
B. Analyze
1. Do SMART objectives make the lesson more focused?
Of course, basically if we considered the SMART increasing our lesson plan, the teaching and
learning process will became more productive and focused on the learning objective that every
student needed.

2. What are possible consequences of teaching purely subject matter for mastery and for the test?
If we are looking for the consequences, it has 2 factors negative and positive. If we teach the
lesson throughout the lesson proper with just only focusing in one way, most commonly the
learner gets bored and not understand the lessons well.

3. If you were to reteach the classes you observed, would you be teacher-centered of student-
centered? Why?

If I would reteach the classes that I’ve observed, I would be on the student-centered teaching
type. As a teacher we must developed every student ability. In my part I chose the students
centered type of teaching because it can be the way to developed their strong will to share their
ideas and they are able to speak-out and share their thoughts throughout the lesson. And for me, it
can be a great strategies’ for them to remember an understand since they experience it. (every
answer has its own experience)

C. Reflection
Reflect on Principles of teaching worth applying

Principle of teaching is worth applying. It creates a lot of possible things inside and outside the
classroom. For example; it can create an active environment where learner having a good
connection, has a focused attention in learning, can connect knowledge and help students
organize their knowledge.
From among the principles of learning, which one do you think is the most important?
For me, I think there is no or “most important” in fact, all of them are important. Especially in
teaching, it helps to developed the learner, it helps to improve the knowledge and experience of
everybody. So that I can says that all of those are the most important. But if you’re looking for a
specific problem I’ll go for: provides timely feedback.

D. Documentation

Put pictures and under each picture, write two or three related sentences (maximum of 4
pictures).

LEARNING EPISODE 7: GUIDING PRINCIPLES IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

Name: Domingo, Sherwin Y. Yr. Level/Section: BBED 4D Date: 01/20/22

Name of Cooperating Teacher: Mrs. Gemma T. Parungao Subject: FS 413a

I. Objectives:
a. Identify the application of some guiding principles in the selection and use of
teaching strategies
b. Identify the resource teacher ‘s questioning and reacting techniques
c. Determine whether or not the lesson development was in accordance with outcome-
based teaching-learning.
II. Learning Activities:
A. Observe
1. Observe a class with the use of this observation sheet and focus the guiding principles and
provide some examples on how it was implemented inside the classroom.

Guiding Principles
Examples on how it was used

1. The more the senses are I can be used in connecting idea of the learners in
involved, the more an the better teaching and learning process such as providing
the learning. examples or how they can relate to the lessons.
Kinesthetic activity that will make them feel and reatian
the lesson by experiencing it.

2. Learning is an active process Learners’ participation should be involved in teaching.

Students centered style can be used in this type of
problem. Let the learners share their answer. Asking
students for participation or maybe it leads them that
they are teaching without noticing by providing
example coming from them.

3. A non-threatening atmosphere For a non-threatening atmosphere, it must begin in

enhances learning. understand from the teacher show how it must be done.
Maybe some used of activities such as group activities to
lessen the fear of being threaten. If this problem lessen
it helps learners to focus on learning.

4. Emotion has the power to In teaching we have this “objective-affective” that leads
increase retention and learning to the children’s mind, hearth and feelings to feel the
lesson to fell what the lessons all about. With these it can
increase the understanding and focus of the students on
how it is done.

5. Good teaching goes beyond Most common problem is that the students can easily
recall of information forget what the lesson taught. Planning on how t
executes the new lesson is by recalling what is the lesson
yesterday or the other day. It is like spiral curriculum,
repeat, improve understand.

6. Learning is meaningful when it is As I said, every examples, ideas, and sharing have a
connected to students’ everyday great experience. If we teach with the help of this,
life realizing facing reality, using this experience,
connecting to students can help them to developed. We
are not teaching by some imagination, we are teaching
by showing the reality asking them wat is the reality,
what they experience connection on that ideas, and later
on the students will understand even it if difficult to
teach.

7. An integrated teaching approach Integrated teaching approach as my CT did if she’s

is far more effective than teaching the children, connecting to other subject and
teaching isolated bits of discussion that will broaden their idea and not only
information. focusing on a specific lesson but instead connecting with
other sub.
2. Observe a class activity and focus on the question that the teacher asks during the discussion. Write the
question and identify the level of questioning

Types of Question Examples of question that the teacher asked

1. Factual/Convergent/ Did you understand the video?

Closed/Low level

2. Divergent/Higher-order/ Why do we need to eat healthy food especially in

Open Ended/ Conceptual times of pandemic?

3. Affective Did you understand how food is important on our

body?

B. Analyze
1. What is the most effective guiding principle in teaching? Is there such thing?
For me, the most effective guiding principle is the “provide timely feedback”. Feedback is needed
in teaching it must be known and to be known for us to think analyze what or where we are
lacking ang advancing. It is also ways of checking if the children meet your objectives.

2. What is the importance in using various reacting techniques?

The most importance reacting techniques should be the “asking open ended question” it provides
a lot ideas to developed higher order thinking skill of the children.

3. Did the teacher state the learning objectives/ Intended learning outcomes (ILOs) at the beginning
of the class? How did he/she share them?
Before the discussion begins, the learning objectives dictated to the learners to know what
objectives they are going to learn through PowerPoint, in front of the pages. So that it’s a yes.

4. What teaching-learning activities (TLA) did she use? Did these TLA helped in attaining the
lesson objectives/ ILO?

Based on what I’ve observe more on teaching-learning activities that happens are psychomotor
activities, for example dancing, building confidence, drawing etc. that helps to attain the learning
objectives.

5. What assessment did the teacher employ? Were they aligned to the objectives/ILOs?

Based on what I’ve observe more on teaching-learning activities that happens are psychomotor
activities, for example dancing, building confidence, drawing etc. that helps to attain the learning
objectives.

C. Reflection
Reflect on the use of OBTL

OBTL OR Outcome Based Teaching and Learning. Is not focused on what the teachers tends to
teach but rather the emphasis is on what is the outcome from the learners of that teaching is
intended. The goal of OBTL is to know the possible outcome of specific lesson or activity. That
can help in providing assessment framework and evaluation.

Reflect on the importance of various reacting technique

Students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and motivating environment.

Teachers facilitate learning and constantly nurture every learner.
Administrators and staff, as stewards of the institution, ensure an enabling and supportive

Department of Education Mandate

The Department of Education was established through the Education Decree of 1863
as the Superior Commission of Primary Instruction under a Chairman. The Education
agency underwent many reorganization efforts in the 20th century in order to better
define its purpose vis a vis the changing administrations and charters. The present
day Department of Education was eventually mandated through Republic Act 9155,
otherwise known as the Governance of Basic Education act of 2001 which
establishes the mandate of this agency.

The Department of Education (DepEd) formulates, implements, and coordinates

policies, plans, programs and projects in the areas of formal and non-formal basic
education. It supervises all elementary and secondary education institutions, including
alternative learning systems, both public and private; and provides for the
establishment and maintenance of a complete, adequate, and integrated system of
basic education relevant to the goals of national development.

IV. Analysis

1. Based on your finding and observations, which philosophies of education are dominant in
Philippine basic schools? Why do you say so?

Based on the findings and observation the best philosophies that are dominant in schools are
progressivism, pragmatism, and empiricism. Sense has a vital factor in teaching and learning
process. It helps the learners to easily understand and connect to the lessons. Pragmatism to
know what are the efficient and effective things we can use to help the development of the
learners. And lastly, the progressivism, progress is the one that need to improve to the learners so
that we having student-centered learning styles to developed the learner’s skill and abilities.

2. Among the mentioned Educational Philosophies, which one is needed to be given more
attention and why?

For me the behaviorism, as time passed by behavior changes in different

ways and in fact since we have a lot of students we cant remember all of their behavior and as I
said behavior changes in many ways.

V. Reflection

After learning more about this episode, what is now your own philosophy of teaching? Describe
your belief on what/how/why you teach. Write them down and make “My Teaching Philosophy”
as your title.
These may help:
I believe that the learner…
I believe that I should the learners..
by..
I believe that I….(how should you relate to learners and other school stakeholders)

“My Teaching Philosophy”

I believe that the learner was the receiver of the information. As their teacher I am the one
who will help them build their foundation to face the new challenges that may come-up.
Involving them in different kinds o problem that will hit the top of their critical thinking
skill that will help them to developed.

Connecting to learners and building their will to move forward, stand on their own with my
help and to learn a lot of this under me. Building their values, behavior and other things
that may help them in future.

These may help me and the learners to grow more, have experience more and from that,
they learn and grow.
