Assignment 1

1. Find the Frequency of the signal if the time period is 64.

F=1/T = 1/64 = 0.015625 hertz

2. Find the Time period of the signal if the frequency is 8Hz.

T=1/F = 1/8 = 0.125 second
3. Find the wavelength of a wave traveling at 20 m/s at a frequency of 5 Hz. What is the
wavelength of the signal?
λ= C/F = 20/5 = 4m.
4. Find the Frequency of a wave traveling at a speed of 20 m/s with a wavelength of 16m.
What is the Frequency of the signal?
F = C/ λ = 20/16=1.25 hertz
5. Find the value of attenuation in dB, if the signal travels through a transmission medium
and its power is reduced to one-third. Analyze whether the power is a loss or Gain.
dB= 10 log10 P2/P1 = 10 log10 1/3P1/P1
dB=10x10log10 1/3 =10* -0.47712 = -47.712 dB, the power is loss.
6. Find the value of attenuation in dB, if the signal travels through a transmission medium
and its power has amplified 6 times. Analyze whether the power is a loss or Gain.
dB= 10 log10 P2/P1= dB= 10 log10 P2/P1
dB= 10 log10 6
dB= 10* 0.78815 = 78.815 dB, the power is gain.
7. The Average signal power is 10 Watts and Noise power is 3 Watts. Find the SNR dB.

SNRdB = 10 log10 (signal power/noise power)

SNRdB = 10 log10 (10/3) = 10* 0.522= 52.3 dB

8. For a noiseless channel with a bandwidth of 5000 Hz which transmits a signal with 4
signal levels. The maximum bit rate is …=2 * 5000 * log24 = 20 Kbps……

9. For sending 320 kbps over a noiseless channel with a bandwidth of 40 kHz, how many
signal levels are required?

320*103 = 2 * 40*103 *(log2 L) = 320= 2 * 40*(log2 L)

4= (log2 L) =

24 = L  L=16

10.Find the Bit rate, for the transmission with a bandwidth of 100 Hz and SNR is 127.

C= B log2(1+SNR) = 100 * log2(128) =100 * 7= 700 bps

11.The channel is having a bandwidth of 500 Hz and signal to noise ratio 63; Find the
appropriate bit rate and number of signal level? (use nyquist and shannon Eqn). Justify
the answers w r t Levels and Bit rate.

C= B log2(1+SNR) = 500 * log2(64) =100 * 6= 600 bps

C= 2*B (log2 L) => 600 = 2*500 *(log2 L) => 0.6= log2 L

L = 20.6 = 1.5171

12.What are the propagation time and the transmission time for a 30 Kbyte message. The
bandwidth of the network is 20bps? If the distance between the sender and the receiver
is 10,000 km and that light travels at 2.4 × 10^8 m/s.

Pt =Length/Speed = 10000*103 / 2.4*108 = 0.04166seconds = 41.66 ms.

Tt= Size/B = 30*103 / 20 = 1500 seconds = 1.6 *106 ms
