Assessment 2 Lesson Planning and Sequencing

Course outcome
Integrate and apply understanding about students learning, pedagogies and science in
planning and developing appropriate integrated lessons and assessment tasks using
children's literature.
Use pedagogical content knowledge explored in the course and reflect on and
demonstrate the ability to apply relevant science teaching strategies to teaching specific
science concepts.
What to do
Each group will select a sub strand from Strand 4 from either Years 5, 6, 7 or 8
Elementary/Basic science syllabi and get it approved by their instructors.

Note:
The inquiry learning cycle/5E model of science teaching should be evident in the
lessons sequence.
Procedure must clearly outline the activities, the worksheets and the list of
questions that will intellectually engage students in the activity with their
expected correct answers in bracket.
You are required to integrate the science lesson with children’s literature.
Assignment Procedure
Step 2 Look through a copy of either year 5&6 elementary science or Years 7& 8 basic science,
observe how the syllabus content is organised.
Step 4 Choose a Content Learning Outcome (CLO) of a sub strand from strand 4 of the syllabus
and unpack it to obtain the mini learning outcomes for the lesson series.
Step 5 Develop lesson procedures that will enable students to meet the lesson objectives.
Incorporate the 5E model of instruction into your lesson plan.
Step 6 Incorporate literacy in the science lessons (So your lesson will be integrating science and
English)
Step 7 Compile the following and submit in the drobox as a group submission:
I. Cover page,
II. The unpacking process,
III. Lesson plan1 with supporting resources,
IV. Lesson plan 2 with supporting resources
V. Lesson plan 3 with supporting resources,
VI. A list of references used.
One member from the group will submit in the “submit your group lesson plans
here!” in My assessment tab.
Refer to the lesson plan guide and the marking rubric provided in the resources in
MOODLE.
