ESSAY ON
“SCIENCE AND ITS SERVICE TO MAN”

Science can be defined as a systematically organized body of

knowledge on a particular subject. So anything related to knowledge
and collection of knowledge about a specific purpose can be defined as
science. Science has proved to be pivotal in the succession of mankind’s
conscious and unconscious intelligence. It is the reason why man’s
caveman days are long gone.

Man has groomed himself into a supposedly better creature than its
past, it is all due to science and the urge of understanding the
unknown.1.2 million years ago man discovered fire which began man’s
journey outside of his cave. His journey led to exploration of the earth.
Due to the urge of understanding the unknown man found the gift of
nature. Thus began the civilization period of human settlement and
agriculture.
“The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday
thinking.” ~ Albert Einstein.

The ancient man has transformed into a modern man due to science.
Science did not originate on its own, all the knowledge was absorbed by
man and the conscious mind was able to produce useable and helpful
goods to make man’s own life easier.
“Men love to wonder and that is the seed of science.” ~ Emerson.
Electricity is man’s most significant achievement in science. The power
to generate electricity, to provide light and energy, to brighten homes
so that humans do not have to live in darkness has proved to be a very
useful for man. It has provided comfort to man and made his life much
better. Science is the reason of mankind’s comfort.
Modern technology is man’s leading inventions in the modern world
and has become a very ordinary part of life of the modern man. The
first TV (television) was first invented in 1927.Its prime function was
to be a medium of information and news about the world. It later
transgressed into a medium of entertainment and showcasing of art and
theater, art is another science that progressed different cultural
heritage, It provides man the space to explore vast amount of
information in a single day, to the very basic news about his country to
major information about other people from different areas of the world.
It has “globalized” man. The modern man is more aware about the
world than he was in his past and it is all due to science.
Atomic energy was first achieved in 1951; only 24 years later man
had learned how to manipulate cells in order to produce mass energy.
This energy was used to run large scale industry sectors that made
human life easier. This status of achievement was seen as a power
statement and many countries strived to achieve it for the betterment
of life. It was used as a weapon of greed in many wars. Greed is a
catalyst for good or bad.
With all the information man was discovering about himself and the
earth, he could not keep track of all the useful information, hence
computers were made in 1991,its prime function was to process large
amounts of information and store large amount of information. It later
provided a medium of the worldwide web. The internet is by far the
most powerful medium modern man has created. It is also pivotal in the
effect of globalization.
Without immunity man cannot survive, Vaccines are the most useful
innovation of man; it has saved millions of humans from suffering, even
worse, mass extinction. The Mother Nature has tried to get rid of man
from what we know from history, but it has only provided a progress of
knowledge and science. Until now man has survived plagues,
pandemics, epidemics, polio, and many other deadly circumstances and
has managed to never recede from existence because of vaccines.
The earliest significant invention of man because of science was a
wheel, a very simple achievement that is still in use as of today. The
wheel originated in the 19th century in Africa and has become a
leading cause of transportation and the modern industry of commerce.

Science has provided the calculations, assumptions, results and

achievements for man to explore other planets than its home. Man has
touched the moon and has landed in many planets that we do not know
of. Man has indeed become ambitious because of science. Mankind has
advanced in many forms. It has advanced intellectually and
scientifically. Science is vast and consists of secrets of our universe and
us.

In nature's infinite book of secrecy

A little I can read. ~WS.
The above mentioned achievements of man through science are only
the most impactful on human history. Along the long journey of
exploration and understanding, man has achieved small yet useful
inventions. Such as wireless telephones, radio transmissions, aero
planes, gun powder, geo satellites, the metric system of
measurement, X-rays, medicines, electric shocks, Etc.
In conclusion mankind has made large contribution to science and as a
result we are more knowledgeable and well informed than our
ancestors. Science is a blessing, it has provided its service to us in order
for us to become more advance and better humans but this power can
be abused in many ways, it can be destructive and constructive to
humans but it depends on man’s nature and what direction he wants to
lead his life and the life of his fellow men. Science has quenched our
thirst of knowing the unknown and reaching a logical reason behind it
but it has left us hungry for more. “Happy is he who has been able
to learn the causes of things.” It has satisfied man’s curious
nature but has left him appalled to the secrets of our universe.
