CHAPTER III

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

(INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT) – 2-3 sentences. What will be in chapter 3. What will be seen. Second
sentence includes the different parts of the chapter 3.

Example:

A. This chapter concentrates on the discussion of the research methods and procedures
adhered to by the researchers in order to answer systematically the specific problems posed
for investigation. Specifically, the research method, population and samples, research
instrument, data gathering procedure, and statistical treatment of the data used for
accurate data analysis and interpretation were explained.

Or

B. This chapter presents the research design, sampling and sampling techniques, research
instrument, data gathering procedure, and statistical technique. The detailed discussion on
the research process will be conducted to obtain the objectives of this research study.

Research Method and Technique Used (A) or Research Design (B)

(Contains the definition of the method used in research and the design
(Qualitative/Quantitative) \. Reason why you chose this method in research.)

Example:

This study used quasi-experimental method of research. It utilized the raw scores of the learners
for the pre-test and post-test to gather the needed data essential for the study. Quantitative methods
were used to observe the relationship between the variables with the principal objective analysed and
associated mathematically through the use of statistical analysis. The study manipulated the
effectiveness of math talk and non-math talk in the academic performance of the Grade 11 students.

Population and Samples

(Talk about the target participants. Who are the respondents, how many and why are they
selected and the place where they are taken.)

ACLC College of Iriga City, Inc. has the largest senior high school population in Iriga City. There
are almost 1,000 students who are currently enrolled in this school and 25% of the population is HUMSS.
The researchers are (STRAND). The researchers employed purposive sampling scheme by selecting two
sections in HUMSS Strand. The selection is based on the result of the diagnostic test. The T-test was
utilized to test the significance of the two sections that got the lowest means. The result proved that
two groups have no significance ….
Research Instrument

(Compose an introductory statement at least 1 sentence. The researcher must use the most appropriate
instruments and procedures that will be used for the collection, tabulation and analysis of data such as
Psychologcial test, Questionnaires, opinionnaires, checklists, rating scales, interviews and document
analysis) Note: Researchers can use on or employ several instruments in combination and include where
did you get them, who made them or possibly you made them- where did you base you questions.

Example: In this study, the following instruments are utilized by the researchers to gather all the
data needed to answer the specific problems in the study.

Pre-Test and Post Test

(Give the definition of this instrument, to whom will this be made. What’s the title of the research ex.
Questionnaire, survey, checklist)

Example:

The researchers made pretest and posttest to measure the mathematics performance of the
Grade 11 HUMSS Students before and after the utilization of the conventional method of the non-math
talk group and the instruction using math talk in the math talk group.

Construction

(How was the instrument made)

Example:

A 50-item skill researcher-made test was constructed by the researcher based on the
competencies designed by the Department of Education. The researcher made a table of specification to
assure that the assessment was aligned to the competencies required.

Validation

(The process by which the researchers have to make sure the instrument and methodology are valid and
correct. Usually researchers use content validation, face value validation, etc.)

(A narrative stating who validated and how they made the validation)

Example:

The researchers asked for the help and assistance of their adviser to check the appropriateness
and coherence of the test questions. The said test was presented to same experts including former dean
of college, and a teacher with Doctorate degree in Language for content validation. The
recommendations of the validators are considered in the final copy of the test.

Data Gathering Procedures

(This is the implementation of the use of the instrument. Narrate how you administer the data gathering
and survey)
Example: Using the validated questionnaire, the researchers collects the data by using…
select the letters of their answers… that corresponds the percentage of instructional time he used …
after gathering the data, it is tallied and grouped based on the answers given by the respondents.
Example: The pre-test was administered among the respondents both… Throughout the
experimentation, the researcher followed similar competencies…

Statistical Tools and Treatment

The researchr

Examples: Central Tendency, Mean, Median, Mode, Averages, Variant, Sample variance, Etc.

Quantitative Descriptive Method

The researcher collects data by using teachers to encircle one of the five chouces that
corresponds the percentage of instructional time he used in various types of student groupings and
instructional materials.

Scoring. The researcher personally checked the answer sheets of the students. The scoring
procedure was the same for both…
