1.1 VLAN connections

Instead of the HUBs or the CISCO switch Catalyst 2924M XL EN DC that were integrat-
ed in former versions there is new hardware introduced for the SGSN. The hardware is
located in rack OEM:SGSN and consists two VPN Gateways and two Ethernet switches.
This hardware connects all relevant network elements as described in the following fig-
ure.

The switch-ports 11-15 are used only for external connectivity in the configuration with-
out VPN-Gateway. Local OAM-access (CTL) is provided via switch-port 10.

Internal VLANs
Between SGSN and VPN-Gateway the first VLAN (switch ports 1, 3, 4 and 16) is trans-
porting the traffic of Ga / FTP-interface of Accounting, of X1P/HI1 / X2P/HI2-interface of
Interception, and of OAM.
The second VLAN (switch ports 2 and 16) is only used if a MP-OAMD is present. In this
case it carries the traffic of Ga / FTP-interface of Accounting between SGSN and the
Gateway.
The third VLAN (switch ports 5, 6, 7 and 16) bears the traffic of X0_3/HI3-interface of
Interception on this section. All data coming from/going to members of these 3 VLANs
are switched via VLAN trunk-port 16 of the Ethernet-switch and the corresponding inside
trunk-port 1 of the VPN-Gateway.

External VLANs
There are 4 additional VLANs defined to provide physically separated external interfac-
es (switch ports) for the different types of traffic to/from outside trunk-port 0 of the VPN-
Gateway:
1. Switch ports 17 and 18 are transporting traffic of X0_3/HI3-interface of Interception
towards BG/MC.
2. Switch ports 17 and 19 are for traffic of X1P/HI1 / X2P/HI2-interface of Interception
to/from LI-IMS.
3. Switch ports 17 and 20 transport the traffic of Ga / FTP-interface of Accounting to-
wards CG/BS.
4. Switch ports 17 and 21 are used for OAM-traffic to/from SC/IP-M.

2.12 Installation of Software for CPG-3300

CPG3300
This procedure describes the installation of the Cisco GGSN CPG-3300. The CPG-3300
is based on the Cisco 7613 hardware.

2.12.1 Supervisor Image Pre-requisite

The Supervisor Engine 2 must have a Cisco IOS image [Cisco IOS 12.2(14)ZA4 or high-
er] that supports the application image on the MWAM. The latest image is available from
the Cisco Software Center at: http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/
For more information on the Supervisor Engine 2 for the MWAM, refer to the following
publications: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/relnotes/

2.12.2 MWAM Ordering Options

The MWAM comes from manufacturing in one of two options:

• WS-SVC-MWAM-1-Pre-loaded with an application image
• SC-SVC-NAP-1.0-No application (NOAP) image

2.12.3 Image Upgrade Process

The NOAP MWAM is not operational until the user downloads an AP image from the
Cisco Software Center. (For an explanation of the MP and AP software, refer to Soft-
ware Overview.) The pre-loaded MWAM already has the necessary images; therefore,
the download procedure is required only when the user wants to upgrade the images to
a later version.
The download process requires the following basic steps:
1. Boot the MWAM from the MP.
2. Copy the AP image to the compact flash (cf) card.
3. Reset the MWAM to the AP (to load the application image).
4. Copy the MP image to the compact flash card.
5. Upgrade the ROMMON image associated with the application.
A ROMMON image upgrade is not always required. Check the release note for the
i application to determine if you are required to perform a ROMMON upgrade.

The image upgrade process loads the application image onto the three MWAM proces-
sor complexes.
For information about installation of the charging gateway please refer to the message
coordinator documentation.

2.12.4 Hardware Overview

The Cisco Multi-Processor WAN Application Module (MWAM) is a Cisco IOS application
module that is installed in the Cisco 7600 series Internet Router. The MWAM uses a
base module and daughter card arrangement to provide distributed functions. The
daughter card contains three processor complexes with two processors on each com-
plex.
The processor complexes are controlled by a processor control complex on the base
module. The processor control complex provides module initialization, control, and in-
terface functions and two Gigabit Ethernet links to the daughter card.

The daughter card has three processor complexes with two processors on each com-
plex. Each of the processors can run one Cisco IOS application image.

2.12.5 Software Overview

The MWAM requires two software components for its operation:

• Supervisor 2 Cisco IOS image-12.2(14)ZA or higher
• MWAM software

72 A50016-D3104-N590-3-7620
Nonstandard Maintenance NM:SW
Software CPG3300

2.12.5.1 Supervisor 2 IOS Software Image

The first software component is the Cisco IOS image on the Catalyst 6500/Cisco7600
Supervisor 2 Engine. This image on the Supervisor module recognizes and initializes
the MWAM and its processors. You must use a Cisco IOS image that supports the
MWAM-12.2(14)ZA or higher.

2.12.5.2 MWAM Software

The MWAM software resides on a compact flash (cf) card that is integrated with the pro-
cessor control complex. The compact flash has two partitions, each with its own operat-
ing system/image:
• Maintenance Partition (MP)
software required for base module initialization and daughter card control functions
(identified as cf:1)
• Application Partition (AP)
the Cisco IOS image for the particular application (e.g., PDSN, GGSN, or SSG) be-
ing installed (identified as cf:4)
The MWAM software on the compact flash card can be upgraded by the user through
the Supervisor console. The upgrade process downloads the latest versions of the AP
and MP images from the Cisco Software Center to the compact flash card. Separate
procedures are provided for the AP and MP image upgrades.
The process involves booting the daughter card from the MP partition, copying the AP
image to the compact flash card, then resetting the daughter card to the AP partition.
Then, from the AP partition, you copy the MP image to the compact flash card.
The application processors (2-6) boot from processor 1 and run the same IOS applica-
tion image.

2.12.6 Operating notes

The following operating notes are important:

• Use the command hw-module module slot_number reset cf:1 to switch to the MP.
In the MP mode, the processor complexes do not fully initialize and cannot run the
IOS image. The main purpose for operating in the MP mode is to upgrade the AP
image.
• Use the command hw-module module slot_number reset to switch to the AP. This
is the normal operating mode.
• The command show module displays the software version of the partition image
you are running. If you are running the AP image, show module displays the AP
image version. If you are running the MP image, the MP image version displays.
• The MP image file name uses this format: mp.2-1-0-11.bin.gz (example)
• The AP image file name uses this format: c6svc-5mwam-g4js-v11b1.bin (example)
• If the file size is larger than 16 MB FTP should be used. For FTP username and
password should be configured on SUP. Check the FTP mode, has to be “not pas-
sive”

1 Upgrading AP and MP Images

The MWAM automatically attempts to boot to the AP when it is initially installed.

However, if the card is a NOAP MWAM, it will fail the boot attempt because no
application image is loaded. In this case, a message similar to the following is
displayed on the console:

b configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

The configuration mode is entered.

Router(config)#

b no power enable module <slot-number>

The power for the MWAM is disabled.

The VLANs on the Supervisor 2 module must be configured to forward traffic to

the switch fabric. On the session CLI to the MWAM processor, the user has ac-
cess to IOS commands to configure the VLANs.

Two configuration modes are available for configuring Supervisor module

VLANs:
• VLAN database mode
• Global configuration mode
Caution: RPR+ redundancy does not support configurations entered in VLAN
i database mode. If you have a high-availability configuration with redundant Su-
pervisor modules using RPR(+), configure the VLANs in global configuration
mode and not in the VLAN database mode; otherwise, the VLAN information
would not be synchronized to the redundant Supervisor module.

2.23.2 Description of configuration file

It is recommended to define a pair of OSI addresses for every remote system to be con-
nected to the MP system:
– local OSI address (LOSIADR)
– remote OSI address (ROSIADR)
The first pair is always defined as OSI DEFAULT DATA. If the MP system is in serious
trouble e.g. recoveries it may happen that only the remote system defined as default is
still known to the MP system. Hence the alarm messages from MP system will only be
sent to this remote system and only this remote system can still access the MP system.
All other remote systems are listed under OSI ADDRESS DATA.

Parameter Description

LOSIADR Refers to the MP system.

ROSIADR Refers to the remote system (e.g. switch commander).
APT Defines OSI Layer 7 target address together with parameter AEQ.
For UMTS/GPRS the following APT is recommended:
1-3-12-2-1107-3-0-2-1-1 for LOSIADR and
1-3-12-2-1107-3-0-2-2-1 for ROSIADR and
AEQ Defines OSI Layer 7 target address together with parameter APT.
The ATP parameter is used to distinguish the LOSIADR/ROSIADR
pairs of the different remote systems on Layer 7.
It is recommended to use ’1’ for the first LOSIADR/ROSIADR, ’2’,
’3’,... for subsequent remote systems.
PSEL Refers to OSI Layer 6 (Presentation) and is recommended to be set
to ’1’.
SSEL Refers to OSI Layer 5 (Session) and is recommended to be set to ’1’.
TSEL Refers to OSI Layer 4 (Transport) and should be chosen different for
every LOSIADR/ROSIADR pair.
It is recommended to use ’0001’ for the first pair, ’0002’, ’0003’,... for
subsequent pairs.
AC Is only defined at the LOSIADR.
For UMTS/GPRS the AC is recommended to be 0-0-13-3100-1-0-1.
IPADR Contains the IP address of the remote system.

Tab. 2.1 Parameters of configuration file

All values have to be inserted as hexadecimal numbers.

It is not necessary to define a PORT in the configuration file. By default the MP system
will use port 102. This matches the standard configuration at switch commander side.

Nonstandard Maintenance NM:SW
Software CONNECTSC

A successful connection of switch commander to MP system requires the corresponding

settings at the switch commander side:
• The parameters defined under LOSIADR have to be entered during creation of the
network element at the switch commander side, since these parameters refer to the
MP system.
• The parameters defined under ROSIADR have to be entered during creation of the
communication server at the switch commander side, since these parameters refer
to the remote system.

1 Prepare file NET.CONFIG

The following steps are executed to transfer the configuration file NET.CONFIG
to the MP system and receive the file NET.RESULT. For starting of the FTP ap-
plication a Q3 script (e.g. CREATE_USER_FTP.TXT) has to be imported and
started at the switch commander before. The script contains the login and pass-
word needed in the following sequence.

b Open a DOS prompt

b Change to directory where the configuration file NET.CONFIG is stored

A FTP session to the MPU is opened. For xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx the appropriate IP ad-
dress of the MPU is to be inserted.

b ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
login:

For the following inputs a user (userid) is to be chosen that is allowed to execute
the FTP application and that has access rights to the path where the file
NET.CONFIG is located. The appropriate password for this user (userpsw) is to
be inserted as well.
