2nd Term – 1st Semester S.Y 2020-2021
Welcome to this module! Implementing a new curriculum is always subject to a new set of
challenges. References are not always available, and time may be too short to cover all the required
topics. Under these circumstances, providing you with quality resource materials aligned with the
curricular competencies may be the best strategy for delivering the expected learning outcomes.

Almost no area of academic, professional, or personal life is untouched by the information

technology revolution. Success in college and beyond requires computer and information literacies
that are flexible enough to change with a changing IT environment and adaptable to new problems
and tasks.

The purpose of the information technology requirement is to ensure that students achieve an
essential understanding of information technology infrastructure encompassing systems and devices;
learn to make the most of the Web and other network resources; protect their digital data and
devices; take advantage of latest technologies; and become more sophisticated technology users and
consumers.

Because software development is based on computer hardware, this chapter will discuss the
general nature of computer hardware and its relationship to software as a way to prepare students for
software development. The authors hope that this text will engage a new generation of software
developers including not only the mathematically and scientifically inclined students commonly found
in programming courses, but also a new generation of students from the arts and humanities who are
finding that computing is as relevant to their fields as it has ever been in the sciences.
