01 Task Performance (Video Review)

Computer engineering is an engineering discipline that combines both computer science and electrical engineering. It involves the design, development and testing of computer systems and software. Specifically, computer engineers work on designing computers, computer-based systems, and networks that include both hardware and software components. They must have a broad knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering principles. Some key abilities of computer engineers include being able to design systems to meet needs within constraints, solve complex problems, communicate effectively, and engage in lifelong learning. Core knowledge areas for computer engineers are circuits and electronics, computing algorithms, computer architecture, digital design, embedded systems, computer networks, and more.

Computer Engineering as a Discipline

TASK PERFORMANCE (Video Review)

According to CHED, computer engineering is a program that embodies the science and
technology of design, development, implementation, maintenance, and integration of
software and hardware components in modern computing systems and computer-
controlled equipment. Computer Engineering curriculum is under the branch of engineering
compare to BSIT (BS in Information Technology), BSCS (BS in Computer Science), and BSIS
(BS in Information Systems) which is under the ITE (Information Technology Education) field.
Computer Engineers must be versatile in their knowledge drawn from fields of computer
science and electrical engineering as well as the foundations in mathematics and sciences
According to CHED, computer engineers:
1. Must possess the ability to design computers, computer-based systems, and networks
that include both hardware and software. They must be able to solve novel
engineering problems, subject to trade-offs involving a set of competing goals and
constraints.
2. Must have a breath of knowledge in mathematics and engineering sciences, associated
with the broader scope of engineering and beyond that narrowly required for the field.
3. Must acquire and maintain a preparation for professional practice in engineering.
There are also the abilities of the students or graduates of computer engineering course
possessed:
1. Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve complex engineering
problems
2. Ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
3. Ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within
realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health
and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability, in accordance with standards
4. Ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
5. Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems
6. Understanding or professional and ethical responsibility
7. Ability to communicate effectively
8. Broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a
global, economic, environmental, and societal context
9. Recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
10. Knowledge of contemporary issues
11. Ability to use technique, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for
engineering practice
12. Knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles as a
member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary
environments
