Task 1: 6.5
The table illustrates the difference of the world population and distribution from 1950 to
2000 with a prediction of the situation in 2050.
Overall, the world population witnessed an upward trend throughout the years, and a
similar pattern can be seen in the proportion of Africa. Additionally, Asia has the highest
population over the period, exceeding all data on record.
Regarding the first table, the world population experienced a 4.5 billion-increase and is
also predicted to continue rising to estimately 9.0 billions in 2050. In terms of
distribution, Asia has the highest percentage, taking more than half of the world
population with a peak of 60% in 2000 and only experiencing negligible changes
including the prediction in 2050. Africa had only 9% of the world population in 1950,
then slightly increased to 13% and is estimated to reach 20% in the future. The figure
for Europe witnessed the biggest fall of 10% drop from 1950 to 2000 and is estimated to
be less than 10% in 2050. Meanwhile, Latin America and Oceania shared a similar
pattern with the proportion being under 10% throughout the period and may remain
stable in 2050.

Task 2: 6.5
It is evident that fossil fuels have been nothing but harmful to the environment and the
quality of our lives. I believe finding replacements for fossil fuels energy should be the
main priority in the modern days.
To begin with, finding alternative energy is of utmost importance because fossil fuels
lead to environmental destruction. Fossil fuels, when burnt, can release gases such as
carbon dioxide, causing air pollution, climate change, leading to global warming crisis.
Not only that fossil fuel industry is one of the main sources of land degradation but also
a threat to human well-being and wildlife animals. We are exposed to toxic air and
gases from vehicles, factories everyday, which can lead to several health problems or
destroy our immune system. –CC + LR
On the other hand, using alternative energy is safer, cheaper and limitless. Alternative
energy is energy that is from nature; it is abundant, clean and completely capable of
replacing fossil fuels. For example, solar energy has an unlimited supply of sunlight that
can be used for heating up your home, growing crops, running power without producing
any harmful air pollutants. Since solar power is renewable and never runs out, we will
spend less money on energy bills and repair. Furthermore, by reducing the amount of
carbon dioxide and toxic gas, not only the environment but also the public health will be
greatly improved.
In conclusion, the use of fossil fuels is leading to serious global warming issues.
Therefore, the government should take consideration and substitute fossil fuels with
alternative energy as soon as possible.
