• Once the models have been built, someone has to monitor them for early signs of
equipment problems
• It’s crucial to put in place a formal monitoring process in your organization
• By its very nature, “early warning” is never an emergency, and is therefore the easiest thing to skip
when things get hectic
• Having people formally assigned to the monitoring tasks ensures it won’t get overlooked

Daily Review and Viewing Alerts
• Watch for shifts in the OMR, then check individual sensors for changes at that time
• Click on Signal Contributions and Fault Diagnostics to view the associated bar graphs
• Click a specific bar for a shortcut to the associated trends
• Check for Alert shading at the top each trend
• Indicates a signal “underneath” that one is in Alert: OMR > Individual Signals > Deviations
• Click on the Alert state icon next to the point name to change the Alert state from within
the trend window

When to Use Each Alert State
• Choose if...
• Condition is not of immediate concern
• More time is needed to see if a trend develops
• Will come back as Action Due
• Try not to put right back into Pending again
• Choose if...
• Condition is not of immediate concern
• Condition is a “special case” that doesn’t fit elsewhere
• May overlap somewhat with the Monitor state
• Choose if...
• Watching something closely; not yet worth notifying end user
• Something that will likely turn into an Equipment issue soon
• Similar to the Acknowledge state, but for more concerning issues
• Choose if...
• Equipment appears OK, but model is tracking poorly
• New ambient conditions
• New operating conditions
• Post-outage changes
• Remove (or add) sensors to Operational Profile
• Can include adding new data, removing old data, changing thresholds, etc.
• May need to wait to collect more data
• Choose if...
• Alert appears due to a bad sensor issue
• Flatlined
• Erratic
• Needs calibration
• Choose if...
• Alert appears to be caused by something wrong at the site
• Mechanical Problem

and case priority
• This is displayed next in the Case Status column on the Alerts tab
• Click the icon as a short-cut to all cases associated with that project

Build Up a Case Library
• Use the Discussions section to include minor updates, questions, or other information not
suited for the Description
• Multiple users can add their own comments to the case
• Similar in concept to an online forum
• In AVEVA Predictive Analytics Client, go to the Real-Time Service menu and select “User
Defined Properties”
