WinRAR - https://www.win-rar.com/download.html?L=10
(Download and install the correct version for your machine)

Computer Requirements:
You will need a modern-day processor no more than 3 years old on a desktop or laptop utilizing one
of the processors listed in table 3, prefer windows but it can also run-on Mac.

I will not be able to help you with the MAC OS, so you will need to be able to run that yourself. You
will need to also download a 30-day eval of Fusion
https://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/fusion-evaluation.html , which is the MAC Equivalent of
VMware workstation on MAC. I will be using VMware workstation and I WILL l supply a 30-
day eval copy of the windows software for you guys to install on your machines (this is
located in UdemyUtils01.iso file, using VMwareWorkstation12 in this case but you can use a later
version you can get from VMware if desired. (Remember if you have a MAC you will need to
download the FUSION eval yourself and install it and have it ready to go by Monday morning if you
are in a LIVE or Remote class.)

This lab environment will not run on a tablet, or Mac Air, Chrome OS, iPad or
NOTE: anything really lightweight. It needs the horsepower of a full desktop or a really
good high powered laptop environment.

1
You will need the following resources to run the lab environment:
Resources Needed
Windows 10 (Windows 7 will work, Modern Day
but its best to use Windows 10)1 Intel or AMD processor in your
machine. See Table 3 below3
60GB Free Hard Drive Space on one At least 16GB of RAM
of the Hard Disk Drives that are part This Is the Random-Access Memory
of your computer system2 that needs to be installed on your
computer system. 4

1
You can also use any version of Microsoft Server operating system as well,
such as Windows 12, Windows 16 or Windows 19 or Windows 2004

2
It is highly suggested that if you are going to use a USB HDD with 60-80GB
free on it, that you move 60-80GB of your data from your existing hard drive
to the USB Drive and install the files on your local HDD. After the class you
can delete the lab environment and move the files back. Otherwise, if you
choose to use the USB Drive to install your lab files, you MUST shut down
the VMs BEFORE disconnecting the USB Drive or it will corrupt the LAB files
requiring you to do a reinstall.

3
You can use any of the following CPU’s for your Lab Workstation.
Processor Types Supported

10th Generation Intel processors and older. A-Series Ax-9xxx & E-Series Ex-9xxx, FX-9xxx.

Intel Core i3/i5/i7/i9-10xxx. AMD Athlon 2xx.

Intel Xeon E-22xx. AMD Ryzen 3/5/7 4xxx.

Intel Atom (J4xxx/J5xxx and N4xxx/N5xxx). AMD Opteron.

Celeron and Pentium processors. AMD EPYC 7xxx.

AMD 7th Generation processors and older.

Table 3
4
You should use at least 16 GB of RAM in the computer you will run your
labs ( 8GB will work but it will be much slower) on regardless of whether you’re
running a MAC or Windows the HDD Space of 60-80GB and the 16GB Ram
requirement is the same for both Windows and MAC

2
Where to copy files on your local machine when you download them?
This information pertains mostly to when I am running a live or remote class, but it can also
OverView be followed when you’re doing a self-study course off Udemy.

Should I create a VeraCrypt file drive object?

The answer to that is primarily up to you. I reason I had requested that you create a
VeraCrypt file drive is so that you can easily isolate it when you’re not using the lab. Anti-
Virus software should be pointed away from the drive letter you choose so it does not try
to delete any of your files.

Remember that you will need to remap your drive letter to the VeraCrypt store if you have rebooted
your machine. Leaving it this way also protects and isolates your regular PC environment!!!

Important! I have paid particular attention to the file format for all of the files and utilities once they are
unzipped. I tried to create anything that would be flagged as a virus by the OS into a .iso format.
You can easily mount the .iso format file in any of your VMs or you can use WinRar to open and
extract various files from it. Caution: If you copy any of the. exe’s or any other file your antivirus
detects as a virus it will most likely delete it. So be careful if you extract any files to your desktop
before moving them into to a VM. Better to map the .iso to the VM if needed.

When the student copies all the files over to his respective machine, I would request they
NOT put them on the Desktop. I generally ask the students to put them on a folder
C:\CEH. Then copy all of the files over to that location. The reason why is 2-fold. If
everyone copies the files to different places it makes it harder for myself or my intern to
troubleshoot any issues when doing a live class. Especially if the student is not quite sure
where they put the files. It’s easiest for us to all copy them to the same place. I.E. C:\CEH
for example. And 2, if they copy the files onto the Desktop, that makes the total filename
longer. Windows has a limit of 255 characters for the filename and that includes any
directories or folders in the pathname. So, having it off the root drive with a short folder
like: C:\CEH solves all the problems.

Directions:
1. First create a folder off of the root drive where you plan on saving your files. Call it
CEH. So, for example if the drive is C: you will create a folder called CEH off of that
drive.
2. If it is a USB, that is fine, just make a note of the special requirements that you need
to observe if you are using it to run your environment.

3
3.

4. Call the folder CEH

5. Use the same link to download all of the 24 – 1GB files
6. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6um07uafdpt9ati/AACtpnVw33p7nZPyi_NzpumOa?dl=0

7.
8. Once you clicked on the small list icon, your webpage should look like this below:

4
9.
10. Click on the very first file CEHLabEnv.part01.rar
11. It will complain with an error message, this file too big to preview…

12. Which brings you to this screen below:

13.
14. A dialog box will appear show the above screen, click the download icon, and choose
Direct Download.

5
15.

16. Click Save

17. Repeat steps 7-17 for each of the 24 files into the C:\CEH (or equiv.) folder
downloading each of them to the C:\CEH folder

6
18.

19. Repeat until you have all saved all 24 files that you “direct download” to the C:\CEH
folder.

20. Finally, open File Explorer and Navigate over to the C:\CEH folder (or Equiv), select
CEHLabEnv.part01.rar, RT Click and Extract here.
21. This will create a folder in the C:\CEH folder called CEHLabEnv.

7
22.
23. Thus, you will have a folder called C:\CEH or whatever drive letter you used.
24. Also Download the CourseMaterials.part1.rar to CourseMaterials.part3.rar using the
same download process as used by the LabEnv files. Save the files to the C:\CEH
Folder.

25.

26. Rt Click on the CourseMaterials.part1.rar within the C:\CEH folder and click Extract
Here as shown above.
27. A new folder called Course Materials will appear containing all of the various lab
guides and other course materials used in the course.

END OF INSTALL LAB

NOTE:
If during the extraction process WinRar says any of the .rar files corrupted, just redownload
that one corrupted file, no need to redownload everything again just that one file. Remember this sets
up the lab for a Windows VMWare Workstation Pro environment, which is the only thing I support.

The install will also work on an appropriately powerful MAC or using

Important! Virtual Box, you will need to use the longer install method to set it up.
Keep in mind I don’t support anything other than VMware Workstation

8
Pro v12 and above but it will work on other platforms like Virtual Box or
Macintosh but you will not get any support from me on these installs.
Follow the Full install method for other platforms.

28. Check to see if the system is functioning correctly by running VMware and opening
one of the VMs. If so then you can move on to cleanup.
Clean Up.
After all of the files have been extracted, you can delete all of the
CEHLabEnv.partxx.rar files, and the ones called CourseMaterials.partxx.rar from the
C:\CEH folder. They are just taking up a lot of disk space.

Additional Suggestions:
If you are having problems please contact my intern Manny. Manny

The installation is a snap and mainly involves copying the lab files to your computer and installing
VMware workstation on your machine(s).

Again, you can use a removeable USB Hard drive for the extra space but it is not recommended. If
you do, you will need to follow a specific procedure for shutdown so it does not corrupt your lab
environment an require a reinstall. If you do choose to use a USB Hard drive, it is recommended to
move about 60 Gig of your current HDD files to the USB HDD temporarily while you are taking the
class leaving 60GB free on your current drive to install the lab environment and after class move
them back.

If this is a Live or Remote Class, please let me know if there are any specific questions pertaining to
the class or the setup. I will have Manny help you install the lab environment BEFORE class
begins. It is important that we get the lab environment installed BEFORE the class as it may be an
issue getting the large number of files down to your location before the class. Copying the necessary
files before class removes a major headache, we will face all week if the copy process is not done
before the class.
