1. What is Biodiversity?

Is a measure of the variety of life in a specific area. For example, in an environment where different
species of plant and animals co-existing.

2. Give the importance/s of biodiversity.

The systems that sustain all life on Earth, including humans, rely on biodiversity. We cannot have
healthy ecosystems that give us with the oxygen we breathe and the food we consume without a
diverse range of animals, plants, and microbes.

3. What are the different types of biodiversity? Describe and give an example of each.

• Species Diversity – to the number of species and the number of individuals within each species
in a specific area. For example, in a rainforest different species of trees are living in it and other else.

• Genetic Diversity – individuals within a species are genetically quite similar which allows them
to produce fertile offspring. Also, a measure of all the genes possessed by the individuals in a population
or whole species. For example, a species of bird produces offspring we called it fertile offspring. An
offspring in a same species or breed.

• Ecosystem Diversity – is a measure of the range of habitats on a range of scales from a small
ecosystem to the whole world. The example for the ecosystem diversity is: grassland, tundra, deserts,
rainforests, etc... and also habitats can be small it can be under the rocks, in a hole, and other else.

4. Explain the human impacts on biodiversity? How would you prevent the negative impacts on
biodiversity?

List of humans made that impact biodiversity:

 The destruction, degradation, and fragmentation of habitats

 Exploitation of species
 Pollution
 Introduction of alien species
 Climate change

A growing amount of natural habitat is being utilized for agricultural, mining, industrial infrastructure,
and urban areas due to the rising demand for natural resources brought on by the growing human
population, more quickly rising per capita consumption, and changing consumption patterns.

Assisting organizations that work to maintain and restore biodiversity. Encourage regional and local
initiatives to combat biodiversity loss. Purchasing fewer items and ensuring that the ones you do
purchase have a minimal impact on biodiversity investing in initiatives that enhance biodiversity
