Leadership is an ability that must exist and be owned by every individual.

Leadership can be used for

oneself, namely, leading or bringing ourselves to a better direction in carrying out every aspect of life.
Not only in organizations, leadership is needed for us to carry out daily life, for example if we are met
with two choices that can make us hesitant to make decisions, a wisdom within us is needed.
However, in the community leadership is widely interpreted as a person's ability to lead an
organization, company, or other institution. Of course this is true, in an institution or organization
there must be a leader who has a responsibility and a big impact for what and who he leads.
Furthermore, a leader's leadership style greatly influences the process when he leads and also the
results he leads. Leadership style cannot be static, but it changes according to the times and also the
subordinates he leads. Therefore, a leader must be able to think revolutionary to face every problem or
obstacle encountered, and cannot think only there without any progress. The personality of a leader
also determines how he will lead in the future. The formation of a leader's personality would need to
be formed to foster the proper character or attitude of a leader, such as wisdom, confidence, being
able to make decisions, and so on.

Born on June 29, 1966, to be exact, Ahok was born in the city of Bangka Belitung. He was born as the
first child of Indra Tjahaja Purnama and Buniarti Ningsing, his parents are of Chinese and Indonesian
descent. He grew up and grew up in the village of Hanging East Belitung with his three younger
siblings until he finished junior high school. After graduating from Ahok Middle School migrated to
Jakarta to continue his education to a higher level in Jakarta. In Jakarta, he studied at one of the
campuses in Jakarta, namely Tri Sakti University. He majored in geological engineering, Faculty of
Mining Engineering. After completing his education on campus and successfully graduating as an
engineer in the field of geology, he founded a cv panda who worked specifically at the mining

His leadership style is known for his assertiveness with an autocratic feel which means he makes
decisions with his own arbitrariness, but that does not mean he is concerned with personal interests.
This was proven when he carried out the eviction of community settlements in Pulo village. However,
he did this based on the constitution, Ahok argued that the government did not need to compensate the
community because they did not have concrete evidence for land ownership rights. On the other hand,
he also maintains communication with the community by accepting aspirations, complaints, and other
things. This open attitude creates a positive impression in the community, because from there it can be
seen that he is autocratic not because of his interests but for the interests of the whole community, and
what he does in accordance with existing regulations.

The communication style of a leader can determine perceptions or views in the community, this is
proven by the communication style carried out by Ahok that can be assessed as two-way
communication. Two-way communication has a very important role in leading, not only listening to
the contents of his conscience and head, but he must also be able to listen to the voices of the people
he leads. However, when it comes to conveying something, Ahok is sometimes considered arrogant
by some parties. The policies that he conveys in public sometimes invite the perception that he is
arrogant and his language and tone of speech are loud as well. However, on the other hand, he
succeeded in making the people he leads obedient to his policies.

The attitude of leadership is the main thing for every individual, because it can be used for everyday
life. For a leader should have this and also the style in leading an institution or organization. The
leadership style of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) is very well known for his firmness and courage
to act. His openness to society makes his leadership style two-way, one example is when he allows
anyone to express their aspirations directly through messages to his personal cellphone number.
Ahok's policy will have an impact on what work he has given to the community he leads, not only that
he only cares about personal interests, but for the common good.

As a leader who comes from a minority who leads the majority community, Ahok is obliged to
maintain a harmonious and humanist leadership capability with the people of DKI Jakarta which is
different from the majority. Thus, Ahok must adjust to the people of DKI Jakarta to better regulate
attitudes and control emotions. However, in my opinion, Basuki Thaja Purnama continues to try to be
the best in personal exchange in a more positive direction towards leadership in the current era.
