Coefficient of Utilization (CU)

- Determine the efficiency of a lighting fixture.

-A ratio of light output from the luminaire that reaches the work plane and the light output of the lamps
alone

Factors influencing coefficient of utilization:

- the efficiency of the luminaire

- the luminaire distribution

-the geometry of the space

-the reflectance’s of the room surface

TYPES OF CAVITY RATIO

1. Room Cavity Ratio (RCR)

hRC - Room Cavity Height

L - Length of the room

W - Width of the room

2. Ceiling Cavity Ratio

3. Floor Cavity Ratio

LUMEN METHOD/Zonal Cavity Method

- Total number of lumens in a room divided by the area of the room.

( E)( A )
N=
(F )(UF )(LLF)
N = Number of Lamps

E = Illuminance Lux

F = Luminous Flux, Lumens (lm)

UF = Utilization Factor

LLF = Light Loss Factor
