Lesson Plan 1st Grade

Lesson Plan

Lesson : ,,My head’’


Date : November,10th
Type of lesson : Acquisition of knowledge; teaching vocabulary.
Skills : Speaking, Listening,Reading.

Lesson Aims :
- To practice names of body parts and colours;
- To describe people;
- To form affirmative statements using the verbs to be and to have;
- To use the newly aquired vocabulary in order to make a physical portrait and
describe it orally.

Teaching aids: textbook (Limba engleza pentru clasa I), posters, blackboard, coloured chalk,
handouts, computer.
Assessment: formative, oral, homework, systematic observation.

Warm-up
Aims :
- To warm-up students;
- To create a pleasant atmosphere for learning.

Procedure Interaction Timing


The teacher greets class and checks attendance :
“Are there any absents today?” Frontal 2 min.
How are you feeling today?

Activity 1 (Lead-in)
Aims :- To make Ss aware of the items they will learn;

-To motivate Ss by means of personalization.


Procedure Interaction Timing
The teacher draws a circle on the blackboard and Frontal 10 min.
asks students to name the object. (What is it? Is it a Individual
ball? Is it an egg?). The teacher explains that it is
going to be a human face and writes the title of the
new lesson on the BB and tells the SS that, due to the
fact we are all different, they will learn to describe
people’s appearance.
T draws the face elements – the eyes,
nose,mouth,ears and the hair.T drills the new
vocabulary. The teacher asks students to decide if it
will be a boy or a girl, they will give it a name and
follow their instructions: colour the eyes, the mouth
and the hair. Then, the teacher asks SS to see if
he/she resembles someone in the class.

Activity 2 Practice and consolidation


Aims :
- To provide Ss further practice in describing physical appearance;
- To encourage communication.
Procedure Interaction Timing
The teacher asks students to answer the questions on
Frontal
page 34 from their textbook. They practice reading, 5 min.
Individual
then tick the right answer.

Activity 3 (Evaluation)
Aims :
- To make Ss feel confident when speaking a foreign language;
- To create a warm atmosphere at the end of the class.

Procedure Interaction Timing


The teacher asks students to group and announces
them a small contest. They have to choose a leader.
Each team will receive a blank portrait and images of 15 min.
eyes, mouths, noses, etc.. The leader reads the Frontal
instructions from a sheet of paper and gives Group Work
instructions to the team so that the team can „build”
the face.
The Ss vote for the winning team and they receive
rewards. 3 min
The teacher asks students to sing „Head,
shoulders….” after reviewing the parts of the body.

Activity 4: The teacher assigns the homework: draw a portrait of a boy/ girl and write the
parts of the head we have studied ). Then, teacher congratulates students and rewards
them.
