Date: 8/27/2022 School: Calbayog City National High School
Teacher: Mrs Julie Pancho
Week: 1 Day: Monday
Objectives:
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
1. know oneself better;
2. uncover personal and team strengths and weaknesses; and
3. achieve personal discovery and self-growth.

Materials:
Johari Window Model, ballpen

Activity 1.1: Knowing Thyself

Hi there! Today, you will assess yourself and your team
members using the Johari Window, a tool developed by
Psychologists Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham, to help you
better understand your identity and how others see you.
The purpose of this task is to stimulate conversation
about the abilities and weaknesses of each team member and
how to improve teamwork. Below is the template which you
need to fill out and share with your teammates.

Here are the how’s and what’s in filling out in the template (page 3):

1
ARENA: Characteristics and traits that you and others are aware
of. It covers whatever personal behavior you're willing to disclose
about yourself. This aspect promotes trust and fosters confidence.
MASK: Aspects about yourself that you may not want others to
know but are aware of. Additionally, it could include
characteristics that, despite your awareness, you don't show to
others. Your outside, public persona is a mask that conceals your
true nature.
BLIND SPOTS: What you don't see about yourself but the others
see in you. Not appreciating your strengths can also be a blind
spot. Receiving criticism from others might help you become more
conscious of your negative features as well as the positive ones
which you don’t appreciate.
UNCONSCIOUS: Your
traits that are not known
to you and to others.
Though this matrix has four
quadrants, the size of each is not
necessarily equal. Each window
pane will vary depending on:

 how much you share with

other people;
 how well others (try to)
know you; and
 how well you know
yourself.
You can expand your “Arena” area by:
 Disclosing more about yourself, thus reducing the “Mask” area;
 Uncovering more about your “Unconscious” area; and
 Becoming aware of your “Blind” area.

1. To assess yourself, you may use the 5 of following adjectives. Be honest

and objective.
Reminders:
Don’t be
judgmental. There
are no right or
wrong answers
here.

2
2. Once you are done with your own assessment, you may assess the rest of
the members of the team. Choose 5 adjectives to assess your teammates
with the same criteria you evaluated yourself. Be honest and objective.

3. Compare your listed adjectives about yourself and those listed by others
about you.
Note: -if an adjective is in both lists, place it in the arena quadrant
-if an adjective appears on your list but does not appear in your
team’s list, place it in the mask quadrant
-if the adjective appears in the team’s list but does not appear
on your own list, place it in the blind spot quadrant
-if any adjective appears on neither list, it can go to the
unconscious quadrant.

4. Once all team members are done, each member shall review their Johari
Window Assessment. Compare the self-assessment and team assessment.
Reflect and share the adjectives on the open quadrant. Talk about the
adjectives you listed for yourself but your teammates did not. Select one
adjective that your team listed but you did not. The team now has the
opportunity to give feedback about this.

Activity 1.2. My Reflections

 How easy or difficult was it to select the adjectives to describe

yourself? Why? –It was easy because if I am already familiar with the
meaning of each word.
 How easy or difficult was it to select the adjectives to describe your
team members? Why? –It was simple because I already know my team
members which enabled me to pick out the appropriate adjectives for
them.
 After comparing feedback, what were you surprised by? –I was
surprised by the adjectives given to me by my team members.

3
 What can you do to reduce your Blind Spot and/or Facade, and move
those traits into your Arena instead? –By knowing myself better and
accepting some blind spots given to me which turned out to be true.
 How can you apply what you learned about you and your teammates
to improve collaboration? –By further improving our communication
and addressing the issues productively.

Start by filling out Part 1 of the Best Parts of Our School handout
which asks you to name your three favorite qualities of your school.
Then, in groups of four to six students, make sure that you are
working with other classmates rather than your close friends. List
down three ideas to share in your group, then decide which ones to
include in Part 2 which lists five good things about the school as a
group.

Next, a representative from each group in your class will go to

the board to write down the list for their respective group. The top
five lists are then combined into a single class-wide top ten list by
the representatives and the entire class (Part III).

Be sure to build teamwork and share the good things about the
school and try posting your list! Remember, to use academic
language in your lists or effective writing strategies like action verbs,
adjectives, and figurative language.

Answer this!

group and class’ perceptions on your school’s best features and
practices?

best features and practices.

3. If you have the ability to change something in your, what would it be?
Why? Who do you think can help you achieve this?
It would be my initial approach on the activity. My group mates can
help me achieve this by providing me new perspectives and ideas
which can give me interest and alter my way of doing the activity.

Week: 1 Day: Wednesday
Objectives:
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
1. to understand the benefits of having career goals; and
2. to set short and long-term goals.

Materials:
Handouts, pens, pieces of paper

Did you know that…

A goal is a desired result that a person envisions,

plans, and commits to achieve. Goals may be short-term goals
or long-term goals. A short-term goal is something that you
want to achieve in the near future. Goals that take a long time
to achieve are called long-term goals. An effective goal must be
SMART:

Specific - Goals must be well defined. They must be clear.

Measurable - Define specific criteria for measuring progress toward
the accomplishment of each goal you set so that you can
measure and keep track of your progress.
Avoid Negativity - A goal must be something that an individual wants
rather than a factor he or she wants to avoid. Employees
should aim at where they want to be and think about
what they can do to toward getting here.
Realistic - Almost certainly your goal is realistic if you truly believe
that it can be accomplished.
Tie actions to each goal – A person needs to take certain measures to
achieve it. Listing the different activities that are needed
to achieve a goal makes the whole process easier.

Week: 1 Day: Thursday and Friday
Objectives:
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
1. identify the advantages and disadvantages of decision-making outcomes;
2. use a decision-making model to make decisions; and
3. develop an attitude of being flexible and willing to change.

Materials:
Handouts, pens, pieces of paper

Did you know that…

Although it might be challenging, decision-making

is a necessary part of daily living. We commonly believe
that there are only a select few difficult choices in life,
such as "what college course should I enroll in? or
"should I take this job or that one?" or "should I rent a
boarding house or not? While these are significant
choices, what makes them become challenging is when all
options are comparable. Decisions can be made less
difficult by balancing the pros and cons, considering the
long-term effects, and reflecting on previous decisions. A
wonderful method to make these strategies easier in life is
to practice them.
An individual’s decision-making skills refer to his capacity to select
the optimal course of action after carefully weighing all of his options and
the existing conditions. Making decisions, whether they are small or big, is a
crucial component of both our personal and professional life.
You essentially define your position in any issue by making a decision.
As a result, developing decision-making abilities necessitates engaging in a
cognitive process where the advantages and disadvantages of each choice
are considered and the results of each option are predicted in light of the
facts at hand.

12
Activity 5. Your Decisions
1. Do you usually make better decisions alone or with a group? Why? When
do you ask for help?
-I usually make decisions alone because I prefer it. I usually ask help from others
when I struggle from making decisions by myself.

2. Do you think making a decision would always have advantages and

disadvantages? Why?

13
-Yes, because every decision has its consequences. The impact of every decision
may vary from advantageous to disadvantageous or from macro to micro.

3. When do you think your decision had advantages or disadvantages?

-My decision had advantages or disadvantages if its factors or outcome turned out
to be favourable or not.

Activity 6. Testing my Decision-making Skills

Directions: In your answer sheet, answer the following questions:

1. Cite different situations in life and apply the 7 steps of effective decision-
making.
-Some situations that can be applied in real life are choosing a college program,
choosing a job, and deciding what to wear in a party.

2. Which of the 7 steps of effective decision-making is the easiest for you to

apply? Why?
-Identifying the decision is the easiest step for me because it does not need
extensive effort nor thinking. It is just already there once I think of it.

3. Which is the most difficult to apply? Why?

-The most difficult step for me to apply is taking action because it requires to
execute the thoughts and the decision by making an action.

4. Do you think making decisions need to follow certain steps? Why?

-Yes, because every decision should be assessed critically so that we will ensure the
best course of action and avoid suffering from its negative consequences.

Activity 7. Decide It Now!

Question:
Based on the illustration on the right, what
do you think would be the best attitude and
decisions for the child to make in order to
earn his diploma? Share your answer.
-Based on the illustration, the child has
to be decisive and critical in assessing himself in
order to successfully identify the perfect college
program and courses for him. In these ways, he
can effectively carry out the necessary steps for
him to earn his diploma
