PERFORMANCE TASK 1

I. INTRODUCTION

Functions can often be used to model real-life situations when an


inputted value has a specific output value. For example, the distance a car
has traveled (the range) is dependent on how long that car has been driving
(the domain). This is one of the many applications of functions. Identifying an
appropriate model will lead to a better understanding of various phenomena.
Thus, a function can serve as a simple kind of mathematical model.
One of its types is Piecewise Function. It is a function that may be
represented by a combination of more than one formula used to define the
output and each formula has its own domain. There are so many ways that it
is used everyday. Now, it's your turn to create a piecewise function based on
your real-world experience.

II. OBJECTIVES
A. Create your own piecewise function model.
B. Evaluate each formula in the piecewise function using its
possible values.
C. Graph piecewise function using Geogebra.

III. TASKS
1. Think and explain about your daily routine that involves function.
2. Create a piecewise function model out of that scenario. Assign variables
for the domain and range.
3. Assign one possible value (or domain) for every formula based on your
experience. Evaluate that using the appropriate function that you created.
4. Graph the piecewise function using GEOGEBRA.

CRITERIA FOR SCORING

1. Real-world Experience (10 points)


The scenario cited is based on real-world experience. The
numerical details are clear, complete, and justifiable.

2. Piecewise Function Model (10 points)


Use of variables are well-defined by writing the domain and
range. Each formula is correct with the possible set of domain
according to the scenario stated. Mathematical symbols are correct.

3. Evaluation of Function Using a Possible Domain (10 points)


One possible domain for each formula is correctly evaluated with
complete solutions. Mathematical symbols are correct.

4. Graph of Piecewise Function (10 points)


Geogebra is used in graphing the function. The graph and
function are well-presented.

5. Accuracy, Cleanliness of Output, Creativity (10 points)


The numerical details are accurate and clearly stated in each part
of the output. Creativity in writing the scenario, making the function
and its graph is evident. The materials in doing this task are exact
and pleasing to the eye. Cleanliness of the output can be observed.
