The Greedy crocodile and The Smart Monkey
Once upon a time, in Mindo-Nambillo Cloud Forest there was a wide river. There is an
old crocodile and his wife live inside the river. His wife is very beautiful but very lazy. The
Crocodile looks hungry and sad. One day, the crocodile was very hungry and he said ‘ I am
hungry and I am so confused about where to get some animals to eat’. He looks sad. Finally, the
crocodile goes to the river to find fishes. In the river there are many fishes. The crocodile always
tries to catch the fish, but he can’t do it. He can’t swim fast. He goes back to the forest. He wants
to catch other animals like cows, buffalo, snakes or other animals. Hmm he already tried it, the
result is the same he can’t do it. And he said ‘ I am already old and I can’t do anything to get
some animal, I can’t run or swim very fast, I am old, i am old’. He said about that condition. This
forest has one of the biggest trees, which one is a monkey's home. But that tree is not an ordinary
tree. That’s a berries tree. The monkey eats berries everyday.
The crocodile is sitting beside the monkey’s home. He always sees the monkey eat his
berries. He wanted to come there but he was shy. But he was very hungry. He is deciding to
come to the monkey’s home. At that time, The Crocodile was not shy, he dared himself.
The crocodile: “ Hy monkey, can I sit in your home?”
The monkey: “ Yes, of course Crocodile.”
The Crocodile: “ Monkey, can you give me some berries? Because i am very hungry.”
The monkey: “ Yes this is my berries. The sweet berries. Why not give you? So, this is for you
Crocodile.”
The Crocodile: “ Thank you so much monkey!”
The Crocodile is eating that berries and said,
The Crocodile: “ Yes you right monkey. These berries are very sweet and I am full. You are such
a kind monkey, can you be my friend? I will be grateful if we are friend”
The Monkey: “ Yahh yess why not Crocodile? And now we are best friends. This is my home,
you can come whenever you want meet me or you want my berries”
After that day, The Crocodile comes to the monkey's home to eat berries or plays together with
the monkey everyday. The monkey was very kind and not arrogant. Sometimes They play
together in the forest or in a river. The Monkey usually sits in a crocodile body when they are in
the river.
One day The Crocodile said,
The Crocodile: “ Monkey, can you give me some berries for my wife cause you know I can’t
catch some animal.”
The Monkey: “ Why not crocodile you are my friend i will give anything for you.”
The Crocodile: “ Thank you so much monkey.”
They are going to Monkey’s home. The Monkey, very happy, can help his friend. He gives many
berries to The Crocodile.
After that, The Crocodile goes to his home to bring some berries for his wife.
In The Crocodile home,
The Crocodile: “ Hey darling, Look at this. I bring something for you. This is sweet berries fruit.
It is from The Monkey. “
His Wife: “ Wowww darling, I am very happy you brought some food for me. I am very hungry.
Hmm, these berries are really sweet. I like it. Hmm my darling, till when will you eat berries??”
The Crocodile just silent and thought about it. His wife said again,
His wife: “ Hm I don’t want it again. I want to eat some meals. Can you bring the heart of the
monkey, I think his heart is better sweet than this berries. Please can you give it to me my
darling?”
After hearing that, The Crocodile is shocking and so confusing. The Crocodile explains
this to his wife, he said like this ‘ How can I do it? You know we are best friends, I can’t betray
his hurt. If i do it he will die darling. The Monkey really kind of me, he always helps me and also
us” But his wife doesn’t want to listen to anything from The Crocodile. And if he doesn’t do it,
his wife will kill herself. The Crocodile was very confused and felt helpless.
So The Crocodile goes to the monkey's home and convinces and brings him to his home with the
reason ‘ His wife wants to meet the monkey and invite the monkey to lunch together . The
monkey was very happy to hear it. They are going to the Crocodile’s home. The poor monkey,
he doesn’t know if he will kill my wife. The Monkey looks very happy about it. And in the way,
The Crocodile is confused and wants to tell the right reason. So the Crocodile decided to tell the
right reason. The monkey is very afraid about that. He wants to go back to his home. But he was
confused about how to escape from the Crocodile because he was sitting on a crocodile body.
Finally, The Monkey has brilliant ideas. He told the Crocodile that his heart was left in his home.
And the monkey tells us we must go back home to take it. The Crocodile just believed him. They
went back to the monkey's home.
After they arrive in the monkey's home. The Monkey is climbing up very fast to the his
tree and said,
The Monkey: “ Hahaha, you are greedy and stupid crocodile. If I left my heart at home could I
live?? You are a traitor! I already helped you and gave you some berries! Is this your return to
me? Now you can’t get my heart or some berries from me. Go away!!!’
The Monkey used his intelligence and his cleverness to save his life. And The crocodile
lost both his friend and berries because use his stupidly.
