Follow this step‐by‐step tutorial to move Microsoft Authenticator to a new phone. Some
websites may need you to validate the new phone with new codes after transferring all stored
credentials to the new phone. These directions may be used to switch from Android to iOS or

Before you begin, you should be aware that in order to switch to a new phone from a stolen or
lost one, you had to have enabled Cloud backup in the past. These steps won't be useful if not.
You may continue using this instruction if both of your mobile devices are in front of you.

on a New Phone

1. On an outdated smartphone, launch the Microsoft Authenticator app.


2. Go to Settings by tapping the symbol with the three dots.
3. Activate the iCloud backup or cloud backup switch.

5. On the new phone, launch the Microsoft Authenticator app.
6. Click the button that says "BEGIN RECOVERY."
7. Enter the recovery account's login information.
8. To use accounts, reverify them first.
9. You must activate Cloud backup in the Microsoft Authenticator app before you can
proceed. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, hit the three‐dot symbol,
and then choose the Settings option to do this. You must now choose the Cloud backup
option.

Remarkably, iCloud backup will appear in place of Cloud backup if you are using an iOS mobile
device.

You must now include a recovery account. Your personal email address is usable as a recovery
account.

After completing that, you must launch the Microsoft Authenticator software on the new
phone. You will see a button labelled "BEGIN RECOVERY" after opening.

Tap it, then enter the same email address you used on your previous phone. All of your stored
accounts will be available on your new phone when you add that successfully.
