The conversation below is between the father and son. Take note of the definition of
terms below the conversation. Read and understand the conversation. Enjoy reading.
A search engine is a web-based tool that enables users to locate information on the World
Wide Web. Popular examples of search engines are Google, Yahoo!, and MSN. In the
conversation, they used GOOGLE as search engine, and CHROME as the browser.
The term address bar refers to the text field in a web browser that identifies the user's
location on the web and allows them to access different websites. In Google Chrome it is
called omnibox.
7
Got it Dad, I’m on it. What do I do next?
The search bar is used when you either don't know the exact address of a site you are
looking for, or when you would like to find multiple sites on a single topic.
8
Snippet a description of the content that you will find if you click on
that search result. It may be written as a description, or it may be
segments of the text of the page that show the words from your
query.
Below the search bar you can see options, ALL, VIDEOS, IMAGES, SHOPPING, NEWS and
MORE. It will now depend on what you are looking for. If you are looking for videos then
you have to click on videos and so on.

Let Us Enhance
Now that we know how to use the search engine in looking for
information we need, this time let us use this skill. Think of the top 5
things or topics that you are curious about. Search for them using a
search engine. Once you find out what you are looking for, you may
print or write your search results on a separate paper. Have fun in
searching.
Example:
1. How to grow an eggplant
2.
15
3.
4.
5.
Let Us Reflect
We are just a click away from the information we need. We can search, we can
post, and we can browse in the social media and see the places we want to
explore someday. We can be entertained by just the gadget we are holding for
hours. May we not forget that spending time, talking about our dreams and
aspirations to the people we love is more important than the gadgets we have.
Why not try to play with your siblings, ask them things you don’t know about,
help your parents with the household chores, you may also try to search for a
recipe which you can cook for loved ones. In that way, you are being
productive in using technology. With the uncertainty of tomorrow, value the
people you love while they are still with you.
