1.2. Subtraction of Integers by MathMonster

This document provides instruction on subtracting integers. It states that when subtracting integers, the sign of the subtrahend is changed and then addition is performed. Several examples are shown such as 5 - 3 = 5 + (-3) = 2. An activity with 58 practice problems for subtracting integers is also included. Students are to write their answers in the blanks provided before each problem.

SUBTRACTION OF INTEGERS

Name: __________________________________ Score: ____________

Subtracting of Integers is the process of finding the difference of two or more integers.

Rule in Subtraction of Integers

When Subtracting integers, change the sign of the subtrahend then proceed to addition.
Examples.
1. 5 – 3 = 5 + (-3) = 2 5. -10 – 10 = -10 + (-10) = -20

2. 6 – 9 = 6 + (-9) = -3 6. -10 – (-9) = -10 + 9 = -1

3. 7 – (-8) = 7 + 8 = 15 7. 0 – (-20) = 0 + 20 = 20

4. -2 – (-4) = -2 + 4 = 2 8. -20 – 0 = -20 + 0 = -20
