TeleCommunication Switch 990

The TCS990 is a digital switch, specially developed to meet the specific needs
defined for traffic operators working at control centres. The switch is used in the
following application areas: public safety, ATC (Air Traffic Control), the maritime
sector, ARBI, PBX and Public Addressing systems. The switch is a flexible and
extremely scalable system. The smallest switch comprises of just one system card
and one interface card. This configuration has a capacity of 8 voice channels. The
maximum capacity is achieved using four 3HE euro-racks, each holding 16 system
cards totalling the system capacity to 512 voice channels. Using configurable
multi-slots, broadband audio for high-quality voice and PA systems can easily be
assembled. The system is implemented using as little jumpers as possible and is
configured and managed using a software control & monitor program. The system
can be remotely maintained and updated with new firmware. In addition, built-in
loop-back modes allow for good diagnostics. Due to the redundant system bus
design and a multi-server structure, an extremely reliable telecommunication
switch is guaranteed. The operator control panels are connected in a star instead
of a ring configuration to ensure the maximum possible availability.

System cards
The TCS990 is build with the following system parts.

DMI 990: Digital Matrix Interface.

This is the general system card. All interface cards
are linked to this card type. The system card has the
following specifications: 300Mhz Digital Signal
processor with 8 Mbyte SDRAM and 8 Mbyte Flash
ROM. 300Kgate Field Programmable Gate Array and
a redundant Low Voltage Differential Signalling
system bus. Two serial telecom busses, four
uarts/sdlc controllers, 16 system and 16 user I/O’s a
16 bits expansion bus and 10 LED signals.

LLI 990: Local Line Interface.
The card can be used to create analogue and digital
connections in the voice switch. This card supports
four 2/4 wire analogue (M1030/1040) lines. The card
can also hold four expansion modules. These
expansion modules can be used to support a wide
variety of (digital) line types. Together with the
DMI990 the card supports an automatic analogue
line system to the CLI990 or CVS990 with the
following properties: adaptive echo cancelling,
automatic line attenuation correction, automatic line
equalization, remote signalling, automatic line monitoring, best signal selection
and remote serial communication. It is also possible to connect
transmitters/receivers locally. In this case the digital signals (PTT, SQL) are used
and optionally other signalling functions like transceiver malfunction and
retransmission can be connected.

LBI 990: Local Battery Interface

The local battery interface is used for direct
connection to a subscriber on a non amplified direct
line. The card supports up to four lines and can
work with ring in ring out or with Q8 signalling. The
card has multiple ring generators to avoid a single
point of failure.

CLI 990: Compact Line Interface

The CLI990 is an euro card sized module. The
CLI990 can accommodate one digital extension
module. Together with the LLI990, the connection
forms an automatic analogue line system. The
CLI990 is positioned on the remote side of the
line alongside the transmitter/receivers. The
CLI990 has a connection for one transceiver. The
transceiver connection has four photo-coupler
input and output ports. These are used for
squelch, transmitter malfunctions, emergency
power, PTT, relays, channel selection and line
malfunction. The digital line connection can consist of a BRM, PRM, ETM, SDM or a
CDM990 expansion module. A RS422 asynchronous serial port is available for
digital signalling. For best signal selection applications an analogue input port with
programmable gain is available to measure the RSSI signals. The module can be
mounted in a 19” rack. All external wiring is connected through RJ45 plugs which
are located at the rear.

MB 990: Mother board.
This card is the motherboard in a
euro-rack. The power supply (or
supplies), the system and the
interface cards are inserted into
the rack. The mother board can
accommodate two power supplies
and 16 system and interface cards.
Several racks can be linked to each other using a simple single flat cable. A power
line sensor module monitors both power supplies and measures the ambient
temperature

switch, although any G.703 protocol could be implemented.
Three transceiver connections with E&M signalling are
available. The card can be provided with an optional ATS-QSIG protocol that
enables three voice channels and a digital connection to be included over a 64Kbit
connection (note that G.728 voice compression is not suitable for line modems).

Control Panels:

TBP 990: Touch screen Operating panel.

The TBP990 is a completely integrated
operating panel. This device contains the
touch screen controls, the audio processing
and digital link to the TCS990 switch. The
screen has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
The high light yield, up to 400 CD/m2,
together with a sharp contrast and wide
viewing angle makes this panel suitable for
almost all circumstances. The display can be
dimmed substantially to support its use in
dark environments.
The operating panel has two built-in speakers and connections for a headset,
handset, external audio unit and a dynamic hand-held microphone. The panel can
be used intuitively by means of tabs, icons and touch fields. The screen is divided
into several functional segments, such as: radio, direct access telephone and
special functions.
The panel is equipped with VESA100 mounting holes, it can be fitted with a special
assembly for desktop purposes. The user interface is the link between the user
and the technology. It is therefore of vital importance that its operating functions
are conveniently arranged and as simple as possible. This allows users to operate
the system quickly and efficiently in stressful situations.
The device can be connected via any existing tcp/ip intranet structure to the voice
switch.

TBU 990: External Audio Unit for TBP 990.

The TBU990 Is the external audio and control unit for the
TBP990. It is used if the touch screen has no internal audio
or if it is more convenient to have the audio and control
separated from the touch screen. The TBU990 has two
volume knobs an internal speaker and gooseneck
microphone. The aluminium surface is coloured and
anodized to make it resistant to scratches. The control keys
are touch keys. They can be touched indefinitely, they are
illuminated by led’s which makes the unit virtually service
free.

The KBA990 is a control panel for systems where the need to
control a limited number of radio channels. It has the
capacity to control four predefined radio channels. Each
channel has a push button to select the desired state of that
channel. Eight led’s will inform the operator about the state
of that channel. Two knobs control the volume of the
selected radio and monitored channels. The panel has one
internal speaker, this speaker can be configured to produce
the working, the monitoring or both sound sources. The
panel provides connections for an external speaker, headset
and PTT switch.

The DBP990 operating panel is a panel with high quality
pushbuttons and lamp status indication. It can be built
into operating consoles. The panel has a swan-neck
microphone, a speaker and two volume regulators for
operating and monitoring audio. An LCD displays status
information to the operator. The DBP panel has
connections for external speakers, headset, handset
and PTT switch.
The device can be connected via any existing tcp/ip
intranet structure to the voice switch.

Software updates and reconfiguration

The system is supplied with an automatic software distribution mechanism. If the server card is
equipped with another software version as the client cards, the software of the server card will
automatically be distributed. This update process will be continued until all components are
updated. The update process will take 30 seconds to several minutes depending of the amount of
system cards. The software updates over digital lines will take from 3 seconds to 6 minutes
depending on the line type. The automatic distribution of software is only supported on digital
lines. The system update process can be initiated in two ways. Firstly by placing a server card with
the new software, or by uploading the new software from the CMSpro system.
