Although Murez wrote the article, her article is almost entirely focused on a report by Dr.
Vivek H. Murthy who’s currently the 21st Surgeon General of the United States. As the
Nation's Doctor, the Surgeon General's mission is to help lay the foundation for a
healthier country, relying on the best scientific information available to provide clear and
consistent resources for the public. Dr. Murthy received his BA degree from Harvard, his
MD from the Yale School of Medicine, and his MBA from the Yale School of
Management. A quote from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services website,
“Dr. Murthy is among the most trusted voices in America on matters of public health.”

Regarding the websites the article was posted to, I found Murez’s article through
MedicalXpress, and regarding their credentials; they’re a website that focuses on
providing information regarding medicine, technology, and science news.
MedicalXpress is powered by Science X and Science X’s credibility and transparency
are independently confirmed, and they’re highly ranked by various journalistic
organizations such as NewsGuard, Media Bias, and Fact Check.
Science X stated on their website they publish roughly 200 articles every day, and their
Linkedin states they have between 11-50 employees. Additionally, Science X wrote that
each article is reviewed independently by at least 2 of their editors to ensure nothing is
overlooked.
The editors of Science X will check the format, style, and content of the articles; along
with fact-checking the scientific content, ensuring headline accuracy, checking the
related reference publication, and actively proofreading and editing the content to
provide the best for their readers. Meaning at least 2 editors from 11-50 employees are
looking at roughly 200 articles a day.
Although the article I had chosen was posted by Medical Xpress, they outsourced the
article from HealthDay which is the company that Cara Murez currently works for
according to her Linkedin. HealthDay is a company that started in 1998 and has been
publishing health news daily. HealthDay has publications shown by not only Medical
Xpress but other various medical websites and even government-owned websites.
So to add to Cara Murez's credibility in journalism, her article was fact-checked by not
only the team behind Science X but also HealthDay and HealthDay’s fact-check
requirements are arguably more in-depth when compared to Medical Xpress.
